Obituary

Ada Ruth Hobbs Ostermiller, 98, passed away quietly and on her terms, surrounded by family, on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 at Idaho Falls Community Hospital in Idaho Falls, Idaho.

Ada was born on June 21, 1926 in a little house on Hog Hollow in Twin Groves, Idaho, the fifth child of Ernest William and Mabel Eliza Abegglen Hobbs. She experienced a great deal of tragedy in her childhood due the loss of her younger brother and sister to pneumonia and her father in a construction accident by the time she was 7 years old.  She spent her early years surrounded by a loving extended family in Twin Groves and Wilford. She completed the first and second grade in one year before moving to St. Anthony, a town she call home for most of her 98 years.

Ada graduated from South Fremont High School in 1943.  A couple of weeks later on June 11, 1943 she married George Ostermiller, Jr. in Wilford, Idaho.  They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on September 17, 1945.  They lived in Newdale for a few years before moving to St. Anthony, where they lived most of their lives.

Ada was a frugal homemaker and worked hard caring for her 7 children.  She was an excellent cook and a master seamstress.  She worked for a time at JC Pennys and as Fremont County Deputy Treasurer, as well as selling Avon and Tupperware.

In 1950, Ada joined the original MelloDaires, and sang with them for 48 years.  She had a beautiful alto voice and shared her talent often.  She also was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.

Ada is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and served wherever she was called, her favorite being dance director.

Ada created a home where everyone was loved and well fed.  She kept amazing records of everything she and her family did.  Her pride and joy is her posterity, and she loved and knew each one of them personally.

Ada's sweetheart George died in 2009, and she continued to live independently in her beloved home until she was 97 years old.  She spent the final 18 months of her life at Fairwinds Assisted Living in Idaho Falls, where she made new friends and captured the hearts of everyone who knew her.  Her keen mind, strong will, and love for her family never wavered until her aging heart gave out on February 18, 2025.

Ada is survived by her children, Jerry (Patsy) Ostermiller of Aurora, CO; Dennis (Alice) Ostermiller of Hyrum UT; Brent Ostermiller of Bowling Green, KY; Brad (Linda) Ostermiller of St. Anthony, ID; Janice Carlson of Moreland, ID; Bryan (Karen) Ostermiller of Fruit Heights, UT; Teresa (David) Hicken of Ogden, UT.  36 grandchildren, 105 great grandchildren, and 31 great-great grandchildren.  Including bonus spouses, the family has grown to 254. She was preceded in death by her husband George Ostermiller Jr., daughter-in-law Joyce Ostermiller, son-in-law Don Carlson; parents, four sisters, two brothers, two grandsons, and 6 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2025 in the St. Anthony Fourth Ward Church, 507 West Second North.  A viewing will be held Friday, February 21st from 6:00-7:30 at the church, and before the service on Saturday from 9:30-10:30 am.
