Obituary

Parker ID - Alan Kay Bloom, 71, passed away Sunday November 22nd 2020.

Alan, known by many as "Al" lived a long life of passion for drag racing, metal fabrication, and creativity. He was well known for his uncanny ability with performance engines and building anything you could imagine out of metal. Most importantly we all knew him as a big hearted brother, father, grandfather, and friend.

He started working on engines at a very young age of about 8 years old when his brother Kenneth bought him a doodle bug scooter that didn't run. He tore it apart and got it running. Everyone was amazed and this started a life long love of engines and metal fabrication. After attending high school graduation, he attended Western Technical College in Denver CO as an automotive technician. Alan worked at the Davis Machine Shop. When h e was drafted in the United States army, he was an expert tank mechanic. During his life, he had an impressive list of accomplishments including several world, national, and track records in his drag race cars, one of which his son still has. Alan was also proud of several magazine articles written about his creations, including his race cars. After years of developing these skills, he started A&R Metal Works in Idaho Falls, which he built into a large company fabricating all manner of metal from apartment railing to grain elevators . During this time, Alan married Christine Bell and had his only 2 biological children, Kristopher Bloom and Nicole Hill.

After s elling and retiring from A&R Metal Works, he continued his love of iron work with his hobby sheet metal company, A & B Metal Art, which he started with his long time and loving wife Bonnie Hansen Bloom in St. Anthony . As you travel around Island Park, St. Anthony, and other areas, you will likely find his artistic signs and other work. He is also well known for helping many people who broke recreational vehicles out on the St Anthony Sand Dunes where he spent a lot of his spare retirement time.

He was a calm and direct father and grandfather, with a heart of gold which was shown best through his actions.  He was strong willed and always strived for perfection in his work and in those around him. His grandchildren remember him as the fun grandpa that stocked his pond with fish so they could go fishing, shared his fun recreational toys, took them out to the sand dunes, played nerf gun wars, made them a scooter bike, and taught them his skills including welding and his love of engines. They knew grandpa loved them. In fact, a nyone who had the pleasure of getting to know him knew him as a guy who would drop everything to help a friend or stranger in need. He was and is loved by many.

Alan is survived by his three children; Kristopher Bloom, Nicole Hill and emotionally adopted daughter Pamela Harmon; Siblings,  E. Zane Bloom, JoAnn Herrera, Nolan Bloom and Wendall Bloom; Grandchildren; Cayden Hill, Cameron Hill, Bryson Bloom, Kady Bloom, Keaton Hill, Kiptyn Hill and Kyndall Hill

He is preceded in death by his parents,  Mildred Opal Bloom and George Henry Bloom; his brothers, Duane Bloom, Kenneth Bloom and Clayne Bloom
