Obituary

Alfred Baddley Shaw, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many passed away August 24, 2022, in Rexburg, Idaho. Al was born in Ogden, Utah, on April 8, 1940, to Leonard Frank Shaw and Constance Ilene Baddley.

Al and Sally were blessed with 6 children: Tyler (deceased), Troy, Tina, Trent, Tim, Tate, their spouses, fifteen grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Al is also survived by his sister, Sherrie Chadwick.

Al grew up in Ogden, Utah. He went to Ogden High School and graduated from Weber College. In his youth, he was an avid tennis player and active in many sports. He served in the Utah National Guard and the United States Marine Corp.

He married Sally Jean Rhees in 1962 in the Logan LDS Temple. They shared 60 years of marriage. They raised their children in Pleasant View, Utah, and Great Falls, Montana, where he had a lifetime career as a Commodities Broker.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities. In particular, he loved working with the youth. He cared deeply about influencing young people in a positive manner. He craved helping others, always!

As his children grew, he supported their interest in 4H, Jr. Posse, horse events, scouting, cheerleading, sports, education, and many other activities. He traveled all over the state of Montana in support of his boys' sports interest. He never missed an event. He was always supportive and took an active role in the lives and interests of his children, their friends, the neighbors, and pretty much everyone else.

As his children grew and moved away, he maintained the same level of loving commitment to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Even the day before he passed, he sang his unique version of Happy Birthday to his six-year-old granddaughter.

He would regularly tell us, "You Are the best of the best!" and he genuinely believed it. Every family member and those that knew him, clearly knew they were wholeheartedly loved.

After being diagnosed with Dementia and needing additional support, Al and Sally moved to Rexburg, Idaho, to be nearer to family members. Sally would like to express her sincere appreciation for the loved and kindness extended to Al in his final years. Particularly, new and old friends, hospice and the memory care team at The Homestead Senior Living facility in Rexburg.

In Al's honor, a graveside services will be held Friday, September 2, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at the Ben Lomond Cemetery in North Ogden, Utah.
