Alta Irene Munns Benson, age 90, passed away January 25, 2010 in Idaho Falls, of causes incident to age. She was born 31 Aug 1919 in Lyman, Idaho, the oldest child of Alvin Weekes Munns and Clara Jane Brindley Munns.
Alta grew up in Lyman and married Herbert Lawrence Benson June 30, 1942 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. After marriage, Herbert and Alta lived in Farnum, Idaho, then settled in Lyman, Idaho not far from their parents' homes. They raised their children in the Rexburg area. All were faithful members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
After Herbert passed away in 1975, Alta served a mission for the LDS church in Salt Lake City at the Family History Library. She returned to Idaho for a short time then made Salt Lake City her home. Alta will always be remembered for her beautiful hand work. She spent the last year at the Turtle & Crane Assisted Living Center in Idaho Falls, where she remained until her death.
She is survived by her eight children: Carolyn (Joseph) Lyons, Lola (Jeff) Krummenacher, Vicky (Danny) Richins, Lawrence (Becky) Benson, George (Louise) Benson, Marcia (Richard) Moon, Sven (Karen) Benson and Vernon (Diane) Benson; and her brothers, Glen and David. She was preceded in death by her husband, and infant daughter, three brothers Howard, Ralph and Ray, a grandson and four great-grandchildren.
Alta and Herbert have 51 grandchildren, 80 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great- grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 30, at the Lyman 1st Ward Chapel, 1952 West 6000 South in Rexburg. A viewing will be held from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. Friday evening and from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. both times at the church in Lyman.
