Obituary

Alta Hillman Peterson, 93, of Lyman passed away Jan 31, 2015, at the home of her son Larry in Centerville, Utah where she had been living for just over a year.

Alta was born the second of three children on October 27, 1921 to Ben Ira Hillman and Helen Brunson at the farm home in Sunnydell, Idaho. She attended school in the old rock school building in Sunnydell until it burned down then moved to the Lyman rock schoolhouse which had just been built. In 1940, Alta graduated from Madison High School. In 1935 the Hillman family purchased the farm in Lyman where Alta lived until April 12, 1941 at which time she married Dewain Arnold Peterson in Lyman. The marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.

After several moves she and Dewain settled in as farmers and purchased the farm in Lyman where they raised their 5 children. She lived the life of a typical farm wife spending many hours providing for her families needs and serving many meals to extra farmhands. No one ever walked into her home and left hungry. She spanned the time from living without electricity in their home to enjoying Facebook on her computer. Serving her family was her life. She enjoyed their visits and spent may winters in California with her daughter Holly, as well as trips back East and one to the Holy Lands. She was an avid gardener and was noted for her nicely kept yard, lovely flowerbeds, raspberry patch and vegetable garden all of which she worked until she was 92.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings including a mission to the Mississippi, Jackson Mission from 1986-1987.

Survivors include sons, Larry W. and Judy Peterson of Centerville; Utah, and Dan L. and ShaLae Peterson of Lyman; daughters, Deanna and Jim Mecham of Moab, Utah; Holly and Drew Rowe of Modesto, California; Son-in-Law, Rod Garner; her sister Helen Mae Andrus, of Alpine, Utah; 13 Grand children and 28 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother, Lynn Hillman, a daughter Carla Garner, grandsons Timothy Peterson, Daniel Rowe, Ian Peterson and Ray Garner.
