IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ann
Zitting
April 19, 1934 – January 27, 2025
Ann Zitting was born in Germany, in 1934, in a small town on the Danube River called Lauingen. When she was a small child, WWII broke out and she and her family experienced many hardships due to lack of steady food supply, air raids and having to run to the nearest bomb shelter on occasion in order to stay safe.
She attended a Catholic school taught by nuns, and when Hitler rose to power he replaced them with regular teachers and there were no more prayers allowed in the school. She was only able to complete 8th grade and then had to go to work in a stocking factory in order to help support her family. She did some part time modeling and enjoyed playing handball.
When she was 18 she met her future husband, Dale Zitting, an American in the Army-Private E 1, who was stationed in the next town over, in Dillingen They met at a cafe in Lauingen. They started dating and became engaged and got married on Dec. 1, 1953...all the while still not knowing each other's language!
Dale brought her to the family farm in Greentimber and her mother-in-law Mrs. Goldie Zitting, started teaching her the English language. She and Dale moved to Hagerman, then to Pocatello where their daughter Pamela was born. Other moves were to Denver CO, Peoria IL, and San Francisco CA. They finally moved to Rexburg ID and enjoyed 35 wonderful years of retirement. Ann loved to plant flowers and received two Beautification Awards from the City of Rexburg.
She is preceded in death by her father, Josef, her mother Anna, her sister Marie, and her husband Dale. She is survived by her daughter Pamela. grand daughter Gabrielle, and great grandson, Clyde
