Obituary

Ann Broy Porter Zollinger, 87, died peacefully at her home on Monday, February 3, 2014, surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She was born October 14, 1926, in Rexburg, Idaho to Arthur Porter, Jr. and Nelle Child Porter. She attended Madison High School and Ricks College as well as receiving specialized training at the McCune School of Music in Salt Lake City, Utah.

She married Keith W. Zollinger in the Idaho Falls Temple on October 23, 1946, and then began the arduous task of being a Democrat in Rexburg, Idaho for the remainder of her life. In addition to being devoted to the democrats, which was made easier by the fact they were mostly her relatives, she was equally devoted to enhancing the cultural elements of the community she loved so deeply. As an avid arborist at heart, she assisted her father Arthur Porter, Jr. in the planting of many of the trees that still make up Porter Park. She served at various times as the President of the Rexburg Music Club, Rexburg Civic Club and the Rexburg Tabernacle Committee. She was active at the local and state levels of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, and served throughout her life in many capacities in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

She cultivated strong values in each of her seven children and always had time to pass on words of wisdom to grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends, always willing to give of her time for the good cause. Friends and family will forever feel the effects of the many callings she accepted and magnified.

She is survived by her seven children, Keith Arthur (Jann) Zollinger, of Pocatello, Joseph Porter (Robin) Zollinger, of Canoga Park, California, Laurel Ruth (Dale) Harris, of Sandy, Utah, Mary Ann (Glenn) Mounts, of Rexburg, Lindsay Porter (Neva) Zollinger, of Phoenix, Arizona, Stephen Porter (Cari) Zollinger, of Rexburg, David Porter (Anna) Zollinger, of Draper, Utah; by her sisters Margaret Arnold, of Rexburg, and Mary Nell Baranowski Harris, of Salt Lake City, Utah; 23 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her husband Keith Walters Zollinger; her parents; brothers John C. Porter, Arthur C. Porter, Warren C. Porter; and sisters Virginia Howell, Gertrude Gifford, Jessie Morrell and Louise Clarke.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 7, 2014, at the Rexburg LDS North Stake Center, 314 East 2nd North, with Bishop Brian Memmot officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg and Friday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services at the stake center. Interment will be in the Rexburg Cemetery.
