Obituary

Our dear wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend Audrey Millicent Thurman Long, passed peacefully on September 4, 2010 at home from natural causes. She was born November 30, 1925 in Nottingham, England to Albert Henry and Margaret Steel Thurman.

Mom was raised with her two sisters in England attending school at Felton Secondary School and was active in the defense of her country serving as a Air Raid Warden in World War II. In 1943 she met her future husband Verl Perkins Long, a Radio Operator in the United States Army Air Force and they were married April 1945 in Peterborough England. She sailed on the Queen Mary arriving in the United States in 1946 to join her husband. Mom joined the church in 1946 and their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple in 1947.

She and dad moved to Portland, Oregon in 1947 for dad to go to Chiropractic School. Mom loved taking the family to the Oregon coast because it reminded her of home. A business opportunity allowed them to move to St. Anthony Idaho in 1957.

She held many positions in the church throughout her life and loved being involved in service to others. Mom had many interests. She was a wonderful artist and painted many pictures of her beloved England. She loved to knit and quilt, providing many beautiful sweaters and blankets for her family and others in need. They have remained active in the community for the past 53 years.

They raised 3 daughters and 2 sons; Margaretta (Jim) Spencer, Verl T. (Connie) Long, Suzanne, (Wes) Saling, Karin Traughber, and Mark (Laurie) Long. She was proceeded in death by her daughter Suzanne. She is survived by her husband Verl of 65 years, her sons Verl and Mark, daughters Margaretta and Karin, 21 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.
