Obituary

Barbara Jean Barlow Burgett, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away in Rexburg, Idaho, on February 13, 2025, at the age 75.

Barbara was born on Feb 27, 1949, in Crestview, Florida, to Daniel Erby Lee Barlow of Owassa, Alabama, and Edna Evelyn Beesley of McKenzie, Alabama. She graduated from Pensacola High School. She graduated from the Cosmetology program at Pensacola Junior College, then went on to obtain a Bachelors from University of West Florida and later began a Masters in Early Childhood Education.

Once the first grandchild was born, Barbara and her husband, Roy, moved around the country when the grandchild(ren) moved. Following the sudden passing of her husband, Barbara accepted the invitation to travel the country with her daughter's family. She then chose an apartment in Eastern Idaho when they bought property there. She loved the area, as the mountains were her favorite place to be.

She is described by siblings and extended family members as having a great zeal for life and a fabulous sense of humor that always kept a smile on their faces after talking with her. Her grandsons called her Nana and describe her as devoted and ready to support their latest adventure or project idea. Her only child remembers her mom's lifelong passion for children's care and protecting children from harsh experiences, as well as being her cheerleader for every challenge or task she faced growing up.

Barbara displayed many talents, from teaching cosmetology at Pensacola Junior College to opening her own childcare center, Friendly Woods Learning Center, to growing plentiful gardens with her husband and grandsons. A few of her favorite things include the color pale green, her blue pottery collection, the music of Elton John and John Denver, blue cheese dressing, corn dogs, the mountains, adventure, working outside, and, of course, time with her grandsons. She held fast to her faith and the saving grace of Jesus.

Barbara is preceded in death by her husband, Roy Earl Burgett; her parents, Erby and Edna Barlow; her grandson, Carter Elliott Zapata; and her brothers, Jerrell Barlow and Winston Barlow. She leaves behind her daughter, Jennifer (Jorge) Zapata; her grandsons, Kai Zapata, Dawson Zapata, and Samuel Zapata; and her siblings, Gene (Jo, d.) Barlow, Robert "Bob" (Malinda) Barlow, Frederick "Dick" (MaryAnne) Barlow, Darleen Moore, Betty (Lee, d.) Dixon, Joyce Howell, and Kay (Roger) O'Neal.

Barbara will be remembered as someone who invested all she had to improve the lives of others, and who sought to make a better life for her child and grandchildren. She leaves behind a legacy of giving.

A celebration of life will be held in Idaho in March, and then in Florida in April.
