Barbara Quirl passed away on November 10, 2017 at Homestead in Rexburg. She was born on May 8, 1931 in Teton City to Ern and May Quirl.
She graduated from South Fremont High School and then attended the LDS Hospital School of Nursing in Idaho Falls where she became a registered nurse. She went on to get a B.S. in Nursing at the University of Utah and a Masters Degree at BYU.
After receiving her Bachelors in Nursing, she began teaching practical nursing at Utah State Technical School in Salt Lake. It was while she was working there that she received a phone call from President John L. Clarke inviting her to teach Nursing at Ricks College. She came and enjoyed it so much that she stayed 34 years, teaching at Ricks College from August 1959 to June 1993.
Barbara was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many stake and ward callings throughout her life. She served a one-year full-time mission to the Florida Tallahassee Mission. She also served as an ordinance worker for 12 years in the Idaho Falls Temple and for one year in the Rexburg Temple.
Barbara had a great love for her family, especially her parents, siblings, and eight nieces and nephews. Barbara also loved to travel and did a lot of it. Since she had summers off, she traveled almost every summer. She traveled to all 50 states and many countries throughout the world.
Barbara is survived by her eight nieces and nephews: Bruce (Margaret) Turpin, Kenneth (Lee Ann) Turpin, Paul (Genae) Turpin, Garth (Lori) Turpin, Sandra (Lynn) Hopkins, Zeph (Pat) Quirl, Kirk (Toni) Quirl, and Denise (Lamont) Merrill, and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Brent Quirl and Boyd Quirl; sister Beth Turpin; sister-in-law, Phillis Quirl; brother-in-law, Donald Turpin; a nephew-in-law, Kelly Hymas; and three great nephews, two great nieces, and a great-great nephew.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 17th at the Teton LDS Chapel with President W. Clair Harrop officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services at the church. Interment will be in the Teton-Newdale Cemetery under the direction of Flamm Funeral Home.
