Obituary

Bart H Nelson of Newdale, Idaho died Monday, January 29th, 2024 at the age of 64 from lung complications.

Born in Salmon, Idaho, Bart was adopted by Byron W. Nelson and Alma Barclay Nelson. He had one older brother at the time and then two younger siblings came along.

Growing up in Sterling, Idaho, he found solace and joy spending time outdoors with his Grandma Grace, creating lasting memories with friends and cousins building dune buggies. His laughter echoed through many stories of those adventures.

After graduating from Aberdeen High School, Bart pursued his interest for automotive mechanics, earning a certificate from ISU. After this, he realized he should go on an LDS mission where he was called to serve in the Canada Toronto Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, an experience he often described as his second-best decision in life, filled with love for the people and the meaningful work.

Upon returning, Bart's first-best decision was made in May of 1983 when he asked Lisa Haws for a date. The couple married on February 16, 1984, in the Idaho Falls Temple, and this coming anniversary would have marked 40 years of marriage.

Bart continued his education at Ricks College, the University of North Dakota, and then the University of Idaho, where he earned his bachelor's degree.

Throughout their marriage, the couple resided in different locations, including Sterling, Idaho; Rexburg, Idaho; Grand Forks, North Dakota; and Moscow, Idaho, before finally settling in Newdale, Idaho.

Bart enjoyed many interests, including camping at Sorensen's with dear friends, riding his dirt bike, bicycling, and scuba diving. His adventurous spirit was reflected in his bucket list, where he managed to check off all but one of his aspirations.

Devoted to his faith, Bart held numerous callings in the LDS church, forming deep and lasting connections with those he served alongside.

Bart successfully reunited with his biological family, and they became some of his favorite people. He loved them so much. Regrettably, he was not able to meet his late mother, Deborah Jean Krause, who passed away in 2002. However, he found his father, James Francis Klein, and had a wonderful relationship with him until his passing. In the newfound connection, Bart embraced four additional sisters and a brother, feeling an immediate sense of familiarity as if he had known them his entire life.

In honoring Bart's memory, let us remember the profound impact he had on the lives of those fortunate enough to know him. May he rest in peace, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, and a life well-lived.

Bart is survived by his loving wife, Lisa J Haws Nelson, and siblings, Brett (Walter) Nelson, Krista (Bryan) Briggs, Blake Nelson, Linda (Larry) Ochoa, Kim (Mark) Draper, Carolyn (Bill) Spencer, Nancy (Dan) Friedt, and Steven (Leah) Klein. He also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and cherished friends who meant the world to him.

A viewing will be held at Newdale LDS Chapel, Friday February 2, 2024 at 6:00 - 7:30 PM. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 3 at 10:00 AM at the Newdale LDS Chapel. Family will receive friends from 9:00 AM until 9:45 AM prior to the service.
