Captain Benny Joe Holder was used to answering early morning calls. At 5:15am on June 24, 2021 it was no different as he figuratively jumped into his turn outs and rolled to his next call, to be with the Lord and loved ones for eternity.
This time he won't be returning to station 100. Ben leaves behind his wife Helen, children Ginger (Hitz), Allyson (Dawson-Edwards), Memri (Wolf), Benny Holder Jr., beloved step-children, grandchildren and associated family and friends.
A man without guile, Ben was known for his sense of humor, loving kindness, and for his talent to befriend anyone and everyone.
Ben loved to serve his fellow man. He was a key figure in the team that developed the advanced breathing apparatus used today by fireman and rescue workers worldwide. After years of dedicated service, he retired from both the United States Air Force and the Los Angeles Fire Department. He was also instrumental in the development of the Los Angeles Fire Fighters Historical Society Museum and loved serving there after retiring.
Ben enjoyed nature and always looked forward to drives with Helen and spotting "critters ".
His typical reply to the question, "How are you?" was "Finer n' frog hair & sweeter n' bear meat".
Be at peace beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend. See you on the other side.
Special thanks from the family to Homestead Hospice and Carriage Cove Caretakers for their attentive and caring service.
