Bernice C. Kauer
Bernice Hazel Clifford Kauer, 90, passed away February 14, 2014, at the home of her daughter in Rigby. She was born April 12,1923 at Ririe, the third daughter and youngest child of Elmer Emmett and Essie Eliza Summers Clifford. When a few months old the family moved to Portland, Oregon. In 1937 they moved to Rexburg.
She met Ralph W. Kauer and they enjoyed basketball games, lunches, movies and dancing at the Burton Dance Hall and at Riverside Gardens. They were married August 17, 1942, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple.
While Ralph served in the Army during World War II, she lived with her mother and worked at Porter's Book Store. When he graduated from Officer's School she traveled with him to various camps in the United States. After the war they returned to Burton where they raised their four children.
Bernice was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in many callings. She most enjoyed serving with Ralph as officiators at the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.
For sixty years she was a member of the Madison County Daughters of Utah Pioneers, and served terms as Camp Captain and County President. She was an original members of the reorganized Jenny Leigh Camp serving as camp secretary. She enjoyed helping with various historical projects, marking graves sites of original historical figures of the area, etc. She helped publish a cookbook to fund projects. Bernice served in the extraction program and a Genealogy Mission at Ricks College. She and Ralph have written many life histories and published books of family poetry and family members.
She enjoyed family trips and parties and working with Ralph on their farm. Home and family were choice to her. Her greatest accomplishments were being a mother, wife, aunt, grandmother and great grandmother.
She is survived by three daughters; Rosa (Richard) Powell of Rigby, Ruby (Roger) Englis of Ammon, Thelma (Dale) Taylor of Idaho Falls, a son; Lynn (Tanya) Kauer of Burton, serving in the Chile, Concepcion Mission; 14 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren (three more in the springtime), and 4 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law; Berniece (Emmett) Clifford of Danville, CA, and Erma (Lorin) Kauer of Rexburg, with many loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph, her parents, two brothers; Emmett and Ralph Clifford, two sisters; Mary Beattie and Opal Clifford and her son-in-law Richard C. Powell.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at the Burton LDS Church at 3958 West 2000 South with Bishop Chris Wilson officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg and from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church, prior to services.
