Bernice Effie Jones Tanner, 92 of St. Anthony, passed away Wednesday, January 27, 2016.
She was born on December 12, 1923 in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Louis and Ruth Oswald Jones.
Her parents and grandparents had multiple bands of sheep and during the summer months the family would move to Henry's Lake. The sheep would graze on Two Top and the surrounding mountain range. The family would move back to St. Antony in the winter and the sheep would winter out by the Sand Hills.
Her family eventually bought a house on Bridge Street and this is where Bernice was raised. She attended St. Anthony schools and graduated from St. Anthony High School in 1944.
Bernice spent summers working in Island Park and West Yellowstone in the cafe's and gift shops. She met John Tanner at a dance at Pond's Lodge and they later married in St. Anthony and they lived in Rexburg. In 1962 they moved with the National Guard to Puyallup, Washington. They came back to Rexburg for a couple of years and then moved to Marysville where they raised their family and made their home. John passed away in 2007. The next summer Bernice moved to St. Anthony to be closer to her family.
She is survived by her brother Luther Jones of Mountain Home, ID; daughters, Mary Rinehart (Lyndon) of St. Anthony and Linda Rutledge; a son, LeeRoy Tanner of St. Anthony. She is also survived by 4 grandsons, 1 granddaughter, 5 great granddaughters and 1 great grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and 2 sisters, Louise Paskett and Florance Mann.
Funeral services will be Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Bert Flamm Mortuary (581 E. 1st N., St. Anthony.) The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery at St. Anthony.
