Obituary

Beryl Smith Rasmussen 86, of Rexburg passed away on Friday Feb 24, 2012 at the Homestead Assisted Living Center of causes incident to age.

Beryl was born on May 8, 1925 in Grants Pass, Oregon , the fifth child of seven born to Jerome Elias Smith and Bernice Florence Lamb. She spent her childhood on a farm in the small community of Bonanza just east of Klamath Falls, Oregon. She was a true farmer's daughter as she learned the value of hard work and joy of the harvest. Throughout her life she loved to spend time working in her beautiful yard and garden.

Beryl married Charles Robert Rasmussen on Jan 21, 1944 in Klamath Falls, Oregon. They made their home in Crescent City, California for the first several years of their marriage. In 1947 after the birth of her second child, Beryl was converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She was baptized a member by her husband on Sep 6, 1947. They were sealed as a family on Aug 15, 1951 in the Idaho Falls Temple.

The family had four children, three boys and one girl by the time they moved to Archer, Idaho in 1954 and then to Rexburg in 1956. Beryl was a wonderful homemaker and mother and spent her life caring for her family and serving those around her. She had an incredible amount of energy and drive and was always trying new projects: sewing, painting, scrap booking, woodworking and whatever she decided she wanted to do she would just figure out how to do.

She held many leadership positions in the church and spent 50 + years as a member of the Rexburg Fifth Ward . She loved working in the Scouting program. She served as Relief Society President, Primary President, ward librarian and any other calling she was asked to do. She was an avid genealogist and loved to serve in the temple. She & her husband served in the South Dakota, Rapid City Mission from Jun 1,1978 to Nov 21, 1979.

She showed so much love to her children, her grandchildren & her great-grandchildren and spent her life serving them as well as her neighbors and friends.

One of her biggest trials of her life was to learn to be served instead of serving others. She was taught this lesson well by the wonderful staff and residents of the Homestead Assisted Living in Rexburg. They have loved and served her for the last few years of her life as she has suffered from dementia. Her family would like to express their love and sincere thanks to each and every one of them and to the Rexburg Home Health and Hospice for guiding & loving us through the final days of her life. We love you all. Thanks for being our angels.

She is survived by her daughter, Chris (Bron) Leishman of Rexburg, sons, Gary (Marilyn) Rasmussen of Rexburg, Dean Rasmussen of Idaho Falls, Merwin (Laura Lee) Rasmussen of South Jordan, Utah. 22 grandchildren and 54 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles; her parents, four sisters, and two brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb 29th, at the Rexburg Fifth Ward Chapel, 170 West 1st South in Rexburg. The viewing will be held on Tuesday, Feb 28, from 5-7 at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg and on Wednesday before the service from 9 a.m. to 9:45. Burial will be in the Victor Cemetery, Victor, Idaho.
