Bessie G. Thompson Sorensen, 93, died May 18, 2010 at the Homestead in Rexburg, Idaho. She was born April 4, 1917 to Godfrey Schwendiman and Medie Zeneta Hughes. Bessie was raised in Newdale.
She married W. Irvin Thompson on November 3, 1933 they lived in Menan & Grant then moved to Thornton where they ran Thompsons Service & Oil Co. for 20 years. Irvin passed away in 1976 of cancer. Bessie later married Leo M Sorensen on November 7, 1986 in Lyman, Idaho. They spent their winters in St. George, Utah and would come back to Thornton in the summers. Leo passed away March 23, 2009.
Bessie was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
She loved to have her kids and grandkids around her.
She loved to make afgans for the kids and grandkids.
She enjoyed canning, rock hunting, picnics, picking huckleberries, and the great outdoors.
Bessie is survived by her 3 children, Lyle I. Thompson, Wayne E. (Linda) Thompson, and Gary L. Thompson, as well as 24 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren.
Bessie is preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands, W. Irvin Thompson and Leo M. Sorensen, two brothers, LaVell and Norvell Schwendiman, two sisters, Agnes Remington and Veneda Stocks, and two daughters JoAnne Kostial and Karen Widdison.
The family would like to thank the staff of Rexburg Homestead for the tender & loving care they gave to our Mother, and give a special thanks to Dave and Sam.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 22, 2010 at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home and again from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the Teton-Newdale Cemetery.
