Elizabeth "Beth" Peterson Sorensen, 86, of St. Anthony, died February 19, 2017, at Heritage Home of natural causes. She was born March 18, 1930, in Parma, Idaho, to Lyle Rufus and Vernetta Mae Whitman Peterson as their only child.
She grew up at the Swan Falls Power Plant and the Salmon Power Plant where her father worked. She graduated from Salmon High School and then attended Links Business College in Idaho Falls for a short time.
After attending school in Idaho Falls she returned to Salmon and was married to David Sorensen, whom she had met in high school while working at Edmond Bell's grocery, on October 4, 1947. They made their home in Salmon and had two children, Christine and Lyle. In 1953, they moved to St. Anthony where they had their third child, Keith.
She was a stay at home mother until her last child was in high school. She then went to work for Fremont School District 215 as a teacher's aide.
On December 19, 1976, her youngest son, Keith, died in a snowmobile accident. At that time Wade Trost became her special son.
Beth was able to live at home until suffering a fall on September 19, 2015. From that time she was no longer able to live on her own and went to live at Heritage Home in Rexburg. The staff at Heritage Home took exceptional care of her until she passed away.
She was a very special person who will be missed by her pupils from school, her friends and especially by her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Christine (Craig) Haws of Teton City, Lyle (Swannie) Sorensen of Ashton; dear friend, Wade (Terri) Trost of St. Anthony; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband David, and son Keith.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 24, at the St. Anthony 2nd Ward LDS Chapel, with Bishop Mike Smith officiating. The family will receive friends Friday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be in the Riverside Cemetery under the direction of Bert Flamm Mortuary.
