Obituary

Betty Lee Ikerd Johnson was born in Lynwood, California, on January 31, 1932, to Charlie and Ella Ikerd. She grew up in the Los Angeles, California area. She played football with the boys in the neighborhood, loved tennis, and had a high average score in bowling. She moved with her family to Arizona for a time and then returned to Modesto, California, to finish high school, graduating in 1949.

She met her husband, Floyd William (Bill) Johnson, through her brother Charlie (Chuck) Ikerd Jr., who served with Bill in the Army during the Korean War. She and Bill wrote letters to each other while he was overseas. Just a couple of weeks after he returned home, they were married on August 19, 1952. They then settled in the San Francisco area.

In November of 1963, she became a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and found so much joy in the teachings that she shared her testimony with everyone. She wanted others to find the joy she had found and was often saddened and confused when they didn't feel what she felt. She excitedly gave out copies of the Book of Mormon to anyone who would receive one. She was a great missionary.

They had three children, whom they loved very much, and with whom they often took spur-of-the-moment road trips in the area. Later, when their children became teenagers, they all picked up the hobby of riding motorcycles together and would ride them whenever they could.

She worked for the U.S. Postal Service at the San Francisco Air Mail Facility for many years and was one of the first to be certified in using the letter sorting machine (LSM), the first automated letter sorter.

In 1979, they moved to Libby, Montana, where they lived for 40 years. She loved to go out on the logging roads and see the abundant wildlife—bear, elk, moose, deer, and more. She liked to garden and watch things grow.

Bill passed away in 2012. In 2019, she moved to live with her daughter in Rexburg, Idaho. She longed to be with her Bill once again and always counted the time they were apart.

She went to join him on September 8, 2025, at the age of 93. I am sure their reunion was wonderful.

She is the mother of three: Matt and his wife, Debbie; Jerrile' and her husband, Dan; and Peggy. She is a grandmother of 12, a great-grandmother of 28, and a great-great-grandmother of 3.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Ella; her brothers, Chuck, Lloyd, and Leslie; and her son-in-law, Daniel Zachreson.
