Obituary

Our dear mother, grandmother, and friend, Beverly K (Howard) Harris, 81, of Newdale, Idaho, passed away on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, while surrounded by her loving family.

Beverly was born December 17, 1943, in Rexburg, Idaho, to Pete and Wanda Howard. She was the second of six children and a great example to her four sisters and one brother. Raised on the family farm, Beverly developed lifelong talents and skills to bless others. She was grateful for her family and the memories they made together. She learned play the piano at a young age, a talent she shared throughout her life, playing for several singing groups in the area. She also enjoyed playing the clarinet in the Newdale Band.

Beverly graduated from Sugar-Salem High School in 1962 where she participated in drill team & cheerleading, Future Homemakers of America, and Girls' League, just to name a few. She was very outgoing and enjoyed going to the activities, especially the sporting events. She attended Ricks College for a time before marrying her hometown and high school sweetheart, Layne Harris, on August 28, 1964, in the Idaho Falls Temple. They lived in Logan, Utah, during their early married life while Layne attended Utah State University, and then permanently resided in Newdale where they farmed and raised their seven children.

She was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served the Lord and others faithfully her entire life, sharing her testimony often through her deep love for music. She was the ward organist and choir accompanist for over a decade and also served in Young Women, Relief Society, and Primary callings, all of which she loved. She was forever grateful for the wonderful friendships she developed over the years.

Beverly was creative and loved making crafts and decorating her home. She will especially be remembered for her sewing and quilt making. Her quilts were made and gifted to celebrate important milestones, cherished by all who received them. You could often find her spending time in the mountains or at cookouts with her family, reading historical fiction novels, or mowing the lawn.

Beverly's proudest and most fulfilling accomplishment was raising her family alongside Layne and delighting in her 28 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren (with one on the way), where her legacy lives on. You could count on her to attend as many games, recitals, and other activities as possible. She will always be remembered for her generous spirit, sense of humor, mispronounced words and sayings ("Bezzyisms"), and uncontrolled laughter.

Beverly is survived by her children, Trent (Gaynell) Harris of Rigby, Kevin (Jennifer) Harris of Idaho Falls, Lance (Kelly) Harris of Washington, Utah, Shayne (Holly) Harris of Newdale, Robert (Jennifer) Harris of Ammon, Brandon (Megan) Harris of Newdale, and Shannon (Jason) Brown of Newdale; her siblings, LuJean (Brent) Clark of Centerville, Utah, Judy (Jim) Larsen of Farr West, Utah, Susette Simmons of Sugar City, Idaho and Robyn (Eric) Eastin of Rexburg, Idaho. She is preceded in death by her husband, Layne Harris, her parents, Pete and Wanda Howard, her in-laws, Henry and Lena Harris, her brother, Micheal Howard, her sister-in-law, Kathy Howard, and her brothers-in-law, Roger Harris and K Furness.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, September 15, at 11:00 a.m. at the Newdale Ward Building, 350 Church St. The family will receive friends Sunday, September 14, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Flamm Funeral Home, 61 North 1st East, Rexburg, and on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. prior to the funeral services.
