William Brent Griffeth (Bill), 82—husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather—passed away peacefully on February 8, 2026.
Bill was born on May 31, 1943, in Preston, Idaho, to Melvin Pratt and Lois Sylvia Daines Griffeth. He was raised in the Preston area, where his family farmed and ranched and his father taught school. He was the fifth of seven children, with two sisters and four brothers.
Bill’s greatest passions in life were his family and his faith. At the age of eight, he suffered a bow-and-arrow accident that resulted in the loss of his left eye. After several surgeries, he wore a prosthetic eye for the rest of his life—often using it to play memorable tricks on friends and family.
He was a fierce runner, determined to keep up with his older brothers, and set the mile record at Preston High School, a record that stood for many years. After high school, Bill attended Brigham Young University on a running scholarship, but a back injury forced him to stop competing.
In the summer of 1964, he met Marilyn Morrison, who quickly became the love and focus of his life. They were married on June 25, 1965, in the Logan Utah Temple. After many moves and job changes, they settled in Rexburg, Idaho, where they raised their five children.
Bill loved his family and loved living in Rexburg, close to extended family. He formed lifelong friendships through his many activities and interests. He spent countless weekends at family events and enjoyed riding horses, hunting, boating, and snowmobiling. He was deeply involved in Scouting, earning numerous leadership awards, including the Silver Beaver Award in 2001.
He spent many hours in the mountains cutting firewood, hunting with his brothers, friends, and sons, and riding horses on challenging trails. He also rode with the Americana Riding Group in parades and rodeos from California to Washington, D.C.
Bill served the Lord faithfully, accepting every calling extended to him and loving those he served. He and Marilyn served together in the temple and on several missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He taught by challenging others to do more and be better in every aspect of life. Bill worked hard and played hard, leaving a legacy of faith, dedication, and love.
