IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Blair
Clay
June 16, 1945 – August 23, 2025
Hawley Blair Clay, aka Fudgie Budgie Mountain Man, from Byrne Siding, Idaho, by golly, lived a full and adventurous 80 years before leaving for his next adventure.
He was born in Kingman, Arizona, on June 16, 1945, to Budge and Ruth Clay, and left the military base and moved to Archer, Idaho, when he was a few days old. He attended Madison High School where he played football and joined the National Guard, and where he met and married his sweetheart, Delpha Whittaker. They had been blessed with 2 sons, Robert and Gary, when he was deployed to Vietnam in 1968. After returning home from Vietnam, they made their home in Archer, Idaho and welcomed two daughters, Shantelle and Cherice. In 1978, they moved to Sugar City, Idaho, where he lived until he decided to walk amongst the roses on his journey to Heaven.
Blair had a heart of gold, and his family, and grandkids meant the world to him. He loved spending time in his garden when he wasn't sitting on the bank of the South Fork with his sweetheart or his sons, fly pole in hand, or an occasional sand bank with water up to his waist. He enjoyed fly fishing and tying his own flies, bowling, archery hunting, picking huckleberries, and later on in life, golfing with his wife and friends. He was an amazing cook, but at the end, he preferred his hot dogs, vanilla ice cream, eggrolls, and his RedHots, which we're still finding in random places.
He was preceded in death by his mother Ruth, his father, Budge, and his brother, Kelly. Also his sister-in-law, Marian Whittaker, his brother-in-law, Marvin Whittaker, his son-in-law, John Adams, and his grandparents.
His spirit will be carried on by his wife, Delpha, his children, Robert Clay, Gary (Nichole) Clay, Shantelle (Mike) Young, and Cherice Adams, his 17 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren.
He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by many friends, neighbors, and those that loved him most.
So in honor of his big heart, shovel a neighbor's driveway this winter, give the neighbor kids a tootsie pop when they ride their bike past your house, give your extra garden's harvest to those that need it, and talk to a random stranger for 30 minutes about nothing.
Rest in peace. We love you!
