Obituary

Blair D. Kay, age 75, passed away peacefully at his home in Rexburg, Idaho, surrounded by family, on Thursday, September 14, 2023.

Blair was born August 16, 1948, in Driggs, Idaho, to Vernal and Murel (Hill) Kay.

He grew up working hard on the family farm and took every opportunity to explore the mountains. He spent his childhood in Packsaddle Canyon where he would hunt, fish, observe wildlife, and gain a great love for the outdoors. Sports were also a big part of his youth. He played basketball, baseball, football, and was both district and state champion wrestler his senior year. He also lettered in wrestling at Ricks College.

The most significant event of his teenage years was in the summer of 1963. It was then, at a weekend dance, that he met his lifelong sweetheart and companion, Carolyn Grover. Blair graduated from Teton High School in 1966 and attended Ricks College. He served a mission to the Eastern States, headquartered in New York City from 1967-1969. After returning home, he and Carolyn were married in the Idaho Falls Temple on January 24, 1970. Blair earned a Bachelor's degree from Utah State University in Marketing. He worked for Utah Power & Light for 27 years and the City of Rexburg for 17 years. In 2017, he retired to spend time with his wife and family and enjoy his interests. He loved hunting, riding horses, woodworking, RZR riding, and spending time in the mountains.

Blair was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions through the years. He was able to serve a Pathway mission with his wife and served as an ordinance worker in the Rexburg Idaho Temple. He had a deep love for and faith in his Savior Jesus Christ. Blair was a hard worker and loved his family above all else. He and Carolyn raised 6 children together. He taught them to work hard, honor their mother, and the importance of family. From a young age he strongly desired to have a family. Everyone acquainted with him knew that his children were his greatest accomplishment.

He is survived by his wife Carolyn; 6 children, Justin (Meeka) of Kuna, Idaho, Jared (Jenny) of Rexburg, Whitney (Jeremy) Swensen of Lehi, Utah, Brian (Abi) of Provo, Utah, Travis (Jessica) of Queen Creek, Arizona, & Amber (Broc) Genta of Rexburg; 25 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Kent (Arlene) & Terry (Jo Anne); 3 sisters, Marlene (Gary) Robson, Patricia (Alan) Cook & Cynthia (Wayne) Hartshorn.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Karen Stoltz.
