Obituary

David Blair Manwaring, 84, of Rexburg, died Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at his home of natural causes. He was born May 17, 1928, in Rexburg, Idaho to David Heber and Sarah Zella Hart Manwaring. He was raised in Rexburg and attended Adams Elementary, Madison Junior High and graduated from Madison High School where he participated in basketball, football and track. During his life he sang in choirs and many musical quartets.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a mission amongst the Japanese people in the Central Pacific Mission, located in the Hawaiian Islands. He served as Scoutmaster and was active in scouting for many years. He loved being with the young men, sharing in their outdoor camping and helping them with their scouting advancements. He served as a counselor in the bishopric, was a member of the Presidency of the 84th Quorum of Seventies in the Rexburg Idaho Stake, and served as a member of the High Council. He served in the Southeast Asian Branch where they worked with refugees. He was a faithful home teacher.

On August 10, 1949, he married the love of his life, Joann Harris in the Hawaiian Temple. They enjoyed a beautiful life together and were blessed with three wonderful children, Dwight (Gaylene) Manwaring of Rexburg, Bart (Alice) Manwaring of Rexburg and Sara (Kerry) Hansen of Nampa; twelve grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.

Blair attended and graduated from Utah State Agricultural College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Technology, with a major in Construction and a minor in Architecture. He was a member of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi.

He served in the armed forces during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Japan. He was commissioned and was a member of the Army Reserve for 23 years, retiring as a Major.

He loved to work construction and designed and built many beautiful buildings, homes and churches in the Snake River area and in northern Virginia. He owned and operated Manwaring Construction and Heritage of Idaho.

Blair is preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Helen Orme, Beth Schick, Vera Archibald and a brother Var Manwaring.

His family expresses their thanks to the many doctors and nurses at Teton Oncology as well as the nurses from Hospice.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 23 at the Cresthaven LDS Chapel. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg and Monday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Burial will be in the Annis Little Butte Cemetery with military rites by the Madison County Veterans and Idaho Honor Guard. Donations may be made to the Cresthaven Ward for the LDS Building Fund.
