Robert "Bob" Huskinson, age 85, passed away on March 10, 2018, in Rexburg, of causes incidental to age.
Bob was born November 19, 1932, in Rexburg, to Ken and May Huskinson. Bob attended Madison County schools and ISU in Pocatello, where he met his first wife, Dorothy Grigora, with whom he had two children.
Bob's father was among the early Rexburg Bench potato farmers. Bob grew up on the family farm approximately 5 miles east of town near the Sugar City Cemetery. He was the middle of three children and worked alongside brother Ralph and sister Maxine on the family farm, raising potatoes, grains, sheep, and eventually cattle. Bob's work ethic was phenomenal and would serve him through life.
Bob was drafted into the Army near the end of the Korean War but was never sent overseas. After basic training at Ft. Ord, Bob was stationed in Ft. McClellan Alabama. He loved to joke that he "fought the war of Alabama."
Returning to Idaho, Bob briefly worked for Garrett Freight Lines in Pocatello before joining the family agriculture business in Rexburg. The Huskinson's added cattle to their operations and Bob was given responsibility for that part of the business—a skill that would help him diversify throughout his career.
In the mid-1960s, Bob and Dorothy divorced. In the late 1960s Bob married Sue Randall, beginning a beautiful relationship that would last the couple's lifetime.
Bob enjoyed riding snowmobiles in Yellowstone and Island Park, where the family had a cabin. He also adored his string of Kawasaki and Honda touring motorcycles, and with Sue spent countless weekends on the bikes, riding to Jackson or West Yellowstone, or farther to Calgary and Phoenix. Bob had little interest in farther travel; after Sue persuaded him onto trips to Israel, Hawaii, Austria, Boston, and more, Bob would say none of those places were as good as Rexburg.
While Bob was technically a farmer/rancher, his love was for the "deal." He was obsessed with trading land and livestock, and almost-always bought second-hand equipment. He hired good people; treated them fairly. In the early 1980s, Bob and brother Ralph split the farm. Bob worked tirelessly to build and grown his agriculture operation; Sue worked alongside. At times they expanded into trucking and potato shed operations. Bob was named 2004 Farmer of the Year by the Rexburg Chamber of Commerce; in 2017 was inducted into the Eastern Idaho Agricultural Hall of Fame.
Bob was a member of the Madison County Fair Board in the late 1970s and early 80s. He had a huge heart and frequently helped others, with zero desire for acknowledgment. Bob's final years were challenging as beloved wife Sue was stolen away by Alzheimer's.
Bob is survived by wife, Sue of Rexburg; daughter, Anne of Roy, UT; sons, Chris of Idaho Falls, and Randall of Kona, Hawaii; sister Maxine of Coeur d'Alene, many grand- and great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 15, at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg.
