Robert "Bob" William Orme, 78, of Sugar City, Idaho, passed away April 14, 2013, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born November 3, 1934, in Sugar City to Samuel W. and Olive Lorraine Cluff Orme. He attended school in Sugar City and graduated from Sugar-Salem High School, where FFA was his favorite class. He loved raising livestock and helping his father on the farm.
He married his sweetheart, Sharon Walker, on October 28, 1955, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They lived in Sugar City where he worked for Rocky Mountain Gas. He also spent several years working for Davenport Hatchery, while still raising cattle and farming. All six of their children were born while living in Sugar City.
Bob and a group of his friends helped organize the first roping club in Rexburg, where they enjoyed roping together. He and another friend put their horses to the test in cutter racing. He and yet another friend rode their buckskin horses with the Upper Valley Wranglers.
He was a member of the Squirrel Meadows Cattle Association. In 1975, he and three other ranchers bought a large ranch and formed the Fog Butte Cattle Association. He later purchased the Starch Ranch property in Salem, where he expanded his cattle operation further. He later purchased properties in Fremont County. The livestock were his work and hobby. He raised sheep, cattle, and well-bred Quarter horses. His life was one adventure after another. He was elected to the ASC Committee, served as a director in the Fremont-Madison Cattle Association and was awarded Cattleman of the Year in 2003. He was involved in different conservation programs to improve the ranch and provide for wildlife. He loved a good buckskin Quarter horse and a good Stetson hat, always had a big smile, was a friend to everyone he met and enjoyed gab sessions with them. He was known for his honesty in everything he did.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in Scouting, High Priest leadership, and spent four years serving in the Ricks College 23rd Ward bishopric as Ward Clerk. He liked to invite the whole ward out to the ranch for parties down by the Snake River.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon, and their children, of whom he was so proud of; Barbara Lyn (Brent) Carpenter of Sugar City, Kelly (Patricia) Orme of St. Anthony, Cheryl Kay (Kelly) Amy of Howe, Kyle (Kelsie) Orme of Shelley, Kip (Rochelle) Orme of Elmira, Oregon, Kory (Ann) Orme of Salem; siblings Jean (Boyd) Robertson of Rigby, Ruth Miller of Sugar City; 23 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers John Orme and Vern Orme; sisters Velva Greenhalgh and Betty Moulton.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 20, at the Rexburg Henry's Fork LDS Stake Center, 1508 West 3000 North,with Bishop Kendall Grant officiating. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg and Saturday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the stake center prior to services. Interment will be in the Sugar City Cemetery.
