Bonnie Colleen Hill Lake, 70, passed away at her home, after six years of being bedridden, in Sunnydell, Idaho on January 19, 2012. She was born October 5, 1941 in Rexburg to Jessie Ronald and Edna Viola Wilcox Hill.
Bonnie's family lived in a small, one bedroom house that her father had moved onto a basement. When she was one and a half years old, she made her way onto the landing above the basement and toppled off backwards landing on her head. Later this accident affected her left side, causing her arm and leg not to function as well.
Bonnie and her brothers, Gary and Jay, spent a lot of fun times with their cousins, the Kenningtons. The two families enjoyed huckleberrying, picnicking, trips to the woods, birthdays and all kinds of fun times together.
She started school in Archer in 1947. She seemed fine health-wise until about the fourth grade, when she started to complain of being weary on her left side, and slowly started to favor her left arm and leg and wouldn't use them as she should. At one time the family doctor wondered if she might have contracted a slight case of polio.
Her father owned an airplane and the family enjoyed many flights. They also enjoyed trips in her dad's two-door Chevy Coupe.
Bonnie attended Madison High School 1955-1959. She attended Ricks College 1959-1961 and BYU-Provo for one year. She finished her education at Idaho State University in 1967 with a teaching degree, and found employment at Teec Nos Pos, Arizona on the Navajo Reservation where she taught third grade for one year.
She met her future husband, Lee Lloyd Lake, on a blind date in 1965. They were married May 31, 1968, in the Idaho Falls Temple. They began married life in Pocatello where her husband worked for the railroad. They also lived in Clearfield, Utah; Boise, Caldwell and King Hill before moving to Sunnydell.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and spent endless hours doing genealogy. She also enjoyed visiting teaching and Relief Society.
She is survived by her husband; three children, Echo (Michael) Fredley, Perry (Vida) Lake and Troy Lake; two grandchildren, Jared and Bonnie Fredley; brothers Gary (Donna) Hill and Jay (Lana) Hill. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.
The family expresses a special thank you to Hospice of Eastern Idaho and all the good friends and neighbors, who offered support and comfort.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 22 at the Archer-Sunnydell LDS Chapel. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg and Monday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Sutton Cemetery.
