Obituary

Bonnie Ray Liljenquist, 91, passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at Homestead Assisted Living Center, Rexburg, Idaho.

Bonnie was born September 10, 1932 in Sugar City, Idaho, to John Edward Humphreys and Matilda May Keppner.  She was the youngest of four daughters born to the couple.

When Bonnie was still young they moved to Rexburg, where she attended schools in Madison School District.  She graduated from Madison High School, she enjoyed her classmates and spoke highly of the friendships she made in school.

She learned from a young age the value of hard work.  She learned to care for animals that the family raised, work in the garden and cook in the home.  Her mom taught her how to sew, which proved to be a valuable talent in Bonnie's life.  She made many clothes for her family and others.  She also crocheted many blankets that were given as gifts to friends and family all over the world.  She worked making curtains for many families in Rexburg.  She also learned to paint and wallpaper, which is another thing she did to make a living.

The family would spend summers working in the timber up by Warm River and Island Park.  Her father and uncle logged, and the family would all work together.  She remembers camping all summer and riding her horse to help skid the logs.  She cherished her memories of summers spent in the Warm River area.  After high school she worked at Idamont Hotel as a waitress.  She soon meet her husband, Gerald "Jerry" Liljenquist, they dated and soon became serious which led them running off to Elko, Nevada to be married on October 28, 1952.  Three children were born to the couple, Debra, Terry, and Melanie.  The couple moved many times in their married life, spending time in Rexburg, Soda Springs, Spencer, Chester, St. Anthony and Lyman.

Bonnie had many hobbies, including, bowling, pool, playing cards, crocheting, fishing, camping, baking, canning, and going for rides.  She loved time spent with her cousin Fern taking rides looking for birds and animals that they could photograph.  She loved the time spent with family and looked forward to any visit from family and parties.

She is survived by her daughters, Debra Liljenquist Schofield of St. Anthony, Idaho, and Melanie (Kerry) Jones of Rigby, Idaho, as well as grandchildren; Nichole (Josh) Robson of Rigby, Idaho, Tyler Jones of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Tracey (Jeff) Kortright of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Katie (Ray) McMinn of Ashton, Idaho and Sarah (Jacob) Smith of Rigby, Idaho.  She is also survived by 8 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Mary, Donna, and Dorothy, her husband, Jerry and son, Terry.
