Obituary
Bonnie Jean Schwendiman Mortensen passed away peacefully at the home of her son, Steve, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, November 27, 2013.
She was born September 5, 1927 in Newdale, Idaho to Harvey and Gladys Rush Schwendiman. She claims to have been a tomboy as a child, playing ball, swimming in canal behind their home, and working for her father in his potato fields.
She was a cheerleader and honor student at Sugar Salem High School. As a student at the University of Idaho she was inducted into the Spurs, an honorary organization for girls with high academic achievement.
Bonnie married her high school sweetheart, Max Christian Mortensen on December 19, 1947 in the Idaho Falls Temple.
After Max's graduation from college, they made their home in St. Anthony, Idaho. Bonnie played a supportive role in the family businesses which included the Riverside Hotel, Mortensen Apron Factory and Quality Pak. She cheerfully and steadily stood by her husband's side as he presided over the St. Anthony First Ward, The Yellowstone Stake, and The Indianapolis Mission, where over 500 missionaries adored her as their "Mission Mother". She loved participating with the Legis-ladies during the sessions in the Idaho Legislature.
Bonnie loves music and her home was filled with the sound of her beautiful soprano voice. She helped organize and sang with Mello Daires for over 17 years.
She loved all babies and enjoyed caring for her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Max, and children, Kristen (John) Watts of Draper, Steve (Lesli) of Idaho Falls, Melanee (Phil) Berger of Ogden, Lynette (Shayne) Bowen of North Salt Lake, Lori (David) Egbert of Bountiful, and Quinn (Melissa) of Salt Lake City, along with 36 grandchildren and 60 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 30, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. in the St. Anthony LDS Stake Center with Bishop Drostan Orme of the St. Anthony 1st Ward officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 11:30 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery under the direction of Bert Flamm Mortuary.
