Obituary

Boyd Wells Summers, 80, of Salem, passed away November 21, 2009 at his home of natural causes. He was born November 6, 1929, in Rigby, Idaho to Lawford James and Rachel Weaver Summers. He was raised in the Rigby area and graduated from Rigby High School.

He married the love of his life, Joleen Lindholm, from the Iona-Ucon area, on March 18, 1949 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.

He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served faithfully in many callings. At the time of his death he was an active member of the Salem 2nd Ward High Priest Group.

Boyd worked as the Idaho State Brand Inspector for 34 years until he had to retire because of health problems in 1983.

Boyd loved life and especially his family. He believed in working hard and playing hard. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and boating with his family. Many happy weekends were spent in the mountains camping and later at their cabin in Island Park.

He loved horses and was a member of the Upper Valley Wranglers and the Madison Cutter Association. He loved going to his ranch in the Sand Creek area, taking care of his cows and calves.

The last several years, Boyd and Joleen spent the winters in Arizona and the summer in Idaho.

He is survived by his wife, Joleen, children, Sid (Elaine) Summers, Debbie (Rick) Mortensen, Judy (Alan) Huskinson, Kent (Brenda) Summers, Karen (Brian) Dayley, all of Rexburg; a sister, Kathryn Cleverly of Rexburg; 20 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Arnel, Emmett, John and Elmer, a sister, Denice Meng, and a grandson Scott Summers.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at the Salem LDS Chapel with Bishop Charles Allen officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg and Wednesday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Burial will be in the Rexburg Cemetery.
