IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Brent
Saurey
November 17, 1952 – May 12, 2025
(Lyle) Brent Saurey, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend left this world early Monday morning, May 12, 2025. Brent was born November 17, 1952 at Madison Memorial Hospital in Rexburg, Idaho to Lyle and Jossine Saurey. Brent lived most of his life in Hibbard Idaho, except for a couple years in Idaho Falls and two years in Korea to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a faithful missionary and loved the Korean people. He graduated from Madison High School, and earned an Associates Degree from Ricks College then later in life went on to graduate from BYU-Idaho with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting.
Brent was one of the kindest and most patient people in the world. He loved everyone and treated all with genuine respect and courtesy. He was quiet and reserved, but you could tell there were always some deep thoughts going on in his head. He was also deeply generous. He loved to tell jokes and make people laugh. His sense of humor was dry and quirky but we all loved his jokes.
He loved sports. He wrestled in High School and enjoyed playing softball and football just for fun. He loved following BYU football and truly was a die hard fan. He loved to play games of every kind. One of his favorites was a card game called Screwy Louie. He seemed to win more often than the rest of us. He also had an obsession with Bigfoot, and was sure that he heard him once down in the field when he was moving pipe.
Brent grew up on the family farm in Hibbard helping to plant and harvest crops and care for livestock. He had a great childhood in a loving family with three sisters and a brother. There was a strong bond with his parents, siblings and cousins. He loved being in the tractor and being outdoors. He especially loved riding four wheelers. He had a herd of beef cows and also milked Jersey milk cows for a season. To add to the income, he became the water master over several canals, and also did secretary work for the canals. He was elected as the Madison County Assessor and served three terms in this role. Brent loved to travel. One of his favorite places to go was Yellowstone. Many trips were made to Canada, and several cruises were enjoyed with his family.
As a young boy he always had an interest in Canada. He realized later on why he was so intrigued, when he met his Canadian bride (Pat Sveinson) while she was attending Ricks College. They had a courtship over the phone and through snail mail. He had a $300.00 phone bill one month from all the back and forth calling. They were married February 1, 1979 in the Cardston Alberta Temple. To this union was born five sons and a daughter. They were all raised on the family farm and have wonderful memories of learning, working, growing and having fun. There were lots of trips to the "deep dark woods" for hot dog roasts, fishing trips to fish creek, trips to the mountains to get firewood, rock hunting by Henry's Lake and other destinations, four wheeler trips, floating the river and huckleberry picking at his secret spot (that is no longer secret). He was an avid scouter, which was evident in the work he did to help all his sons become Eagle Scouts. He taught his children about the wonders of nature including the constellations, nesting birds, wildlife and other amazing things in nature. He loved gardening and grew a meticulous and bountiful garden each year. Brent was very particular about how things were done, and had an eye for fine details. One of his favorite things to do while checking the canals was to drive along the ditch banks and gather asparagus to share with everyone and anyone.
He is survived by his wife: Pat Saurey; his children: Steven Saurey (Cherish), Levi Saurey (Lori), Jarom Saurey (Nina), Darcey Saurey (Tashia), Ammon Saurey (Xoie) and Fiona Burrows: his siblings Susan Bryan, Kerry Saurey (Kay), Arlene Nef (David), and 18 beloved grandchildren: Nicole, Nathan, Natalee, Grant, Luke, Leah, Mark, Xander, Lyric, Cora, Margo, Rhyler, Bexley, Aila, Leighton, Logan, Marshall and Raigen.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lyle and Jossine Saurey, his sister Denese Hirschi, and his nephew Ty Hirschi.
