Obituary

Brent Ballard Stephens, almost 78, of St. Anthony Idaho, passed away early Sunday morning November 12,2017, at his daughter's home in Rigby Idaho after a long time illness.

He was born November 14, 1939 in a log cabin in Rexburg Idaho, the son of Howard E. Stephens and Dot Ballard.

Brent lived many places when he was young including Idaho, Utah, and California. He graduated from high school in Ogden, Utah. He completed a 4 year course at the R.C.A institute of electronics in one year, and coursework at Weber College.

He was always an adventurous person. Throughout his life he loved spending time in the outdoors. His adventures included running a trap line with his best friend, Ab; prospecting; training his dog, pepper; camping; flying, and exploring the outdoors. He served in the U.S. army, and the Ogden Utah Civil Air Patrol where he obtained his pilot's license. He enjoyed working with his hands including, wood working, auto mechanics, gardening and creating unique amusements for his kids and grandkids. He was a big kid at heart.

Brent married Kay L. Sidwell on April 28th, 1961, in Ogden, Utah, and were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on their anniversary 4 years later. and together they have 8 children.

Professionally Brent worked in a variety of fields including T.V. repair, carpentry, pilot, and automotive repair. He founded 0500 Mechanics in Rexburg Idaho coining the phrase "if you know our name you know our number."

He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served in many callings including ward missionary, teaching gospel doctrine, working with the youth including those at J.C.C., scoutmaster, and serving in the Rexburg temple baptistry.
He loved most of all his family, his wife, his kids, his grandkids, and great grandkids. He wanted to be remembered as a Pilot, a Jack of all trades, a family man, and a tease.

He is survived by his wife Kay Sidwell Stephens, his children Christopher (Tarina) Stephens, Debbie (Kurt) Catanese, Sherrie (Mike) Wheeler, Mary Stephens, Joanne (Toni) Rees, Joshua Stephens, Caroline (Blake) Corgatelli, and Amy Bean Tonks, 18 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Howard and Dot Stephens his sister Dawna Hammer, his brothers Gerald Stephens and Ronald Stephens, and his sons-in-law George Bean and Kevin Tonks.


Funeral services will be held on Friday November 17 at the Parker LDS chapel, 132 N center St. Parker Idaho at 11:00 a.m. Visitation with family will be held Thursday at the Parker chapel from 6:00-8:00pm and from 10:00-10:45am prior to the funeral. Burial will be in the Parker Cemetery with military rites by the St. Anthony Veterans and the Idaho Honor Guard. Arrangements are through Bert Flamm Mortuary.
