Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce that Brian Charles Haacke lost his long-fought battle with mental illness on September 22, 2025.

Brian was born in Pocatello, ID, on January 21, 2003, to Emily and Ben Haacke. He was the 2nd oldest of 5 children (Caleb, Brian, Lily, Megan, Amelia). He grew up in the Lyman area of Rexburg. He attended Madison Schools and graduated from Madison High School in 2021. He attended Brigham Young University - Idaho.

He was a happy child and a kind man with a large, goofy smile and an uninhibited laugh. Brian loved learning and was an expert in many of his interests. He loved working with his hands: fixing cars, doing home improvements, and building anything – including projects for neighbors in need.

He courageously jumped headfirst into everything he wanted to learn. He had natural intelligence, an ability to quickly process information, and the talent to explain complex things in simple ways that made everyone feel smart. He was exceptionally curious and loved many disciplines, including math, science, and what made the world work.

Brian was a wonderful son, brother, and friend. He was quick to help with car problems, help you learn to country dance, be your best friend, or play a game—usually beating everyone.  Brian was a skilled musician who sang, played the piano, drums, guitar, and saxophone.  He had a knack for composing music that was intricate, playful, and hopeful.  We loved to hear him play the piano, especially his own compositions.  Brian served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the North Carolina, Charlotte Mission in 2021. He enjoyed cooking food for his family, especially southern delicacies (grits).

We are better people because of Brian. He lifted everyone he met, and was unique, quirky, and memorable in the most wonderful ways. We love you, Bri Bri, and we miss you.  We look forward to being with you again!

Brian is survived by his parents Ben & Emily, siblings Caleb (Annie) of Provo, Lily, Megan, Amelia, nephew Joey, and his two sweethearts: his 1989 Ford F350 and 1998 Honda Civic.
