Obituary

Our beloved husband and wonderful father, Byron Grant Jensen, age 67, of Rexburg, passed away at Madison Memorial Hospital of a sudden heart attack on Sunday, April 10, 2016 with his family by his side.

Byron was born July 03, 1948 to Grant Lamar and Loretta Burns Jensen. He was the first son born after three girls: Lynda, Deanna, and Susan. He was followed three years later by his brother Bradley. He was raised on the family farm in the Independence-Burton, Idaho area and attended school at Burton Elementary, Madison Jr. High, and graduated from Madison High School in 1966. He married his sweet softie Lana Rae Lauder on July 22, 1966 in Rexburg, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple on October 20, 1978. Byron and Lana established their home on the site of the old Independence Schoolhouse in Independence, where he has lived all of his life.

After High School in the winter months he worked at Roger Brother's Potato Warehouse, Grover Trucking, Nedrow Trucking, Wilcox's warehouse and was the Asst. Manager of a Car Wash & Gas Station in Idaho Falls to support his new bride Lana and baby girl Melanie. His sons Jeremy and Christopher followed in 1970 and 1979. With their family now complete, Byron spent his life showering them all with love and affection.

Byron farmed alongside his father Grant, brother Brad, Uncles Lee and Rex, and cousins with Jensen Brothers Farms for 20 years. With growth comes change and in 1985, Byron and Brad decided to split from their cousins and formed B & B Farms. There they farmed together for the next 30 years with their sons Jeremy, Jared, Nick and hired man, David Lewis. Byron was a skilled and meticulous farmer who truly loved farming and took pride in everything he did and owned.

Byron was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served in dozens of callings and capabilities through-out the years including 1st Councilor in a Bishopric and later Bishop of a Ricks College campus ward, twice as High Councilor, Elder's Executive Secretary, twice as Young Men's President and teacher, Scout Leader, Sunday School Presidency and teacher, and Activity Chairman. He and his wife Lana also served as Ordinance Workers in the Idaho Falls Temple and later in the Rexburg Temple.

Byron was very active and known in his home community and served for many years as Chairman of the Board for Valley Wide Co-Op, Secretary for Bannock Feeder Canal Company and Vice President for the Liberty Park Canal Company. Byron enjoyed boating, tinkering, 4-wheeling, snowmobiling, bowling, collecting antiques and guns, woodworking, repairing old cars and tractors, traveling, and enjoying the serenity of nature and the outdoors in his beloved Burton home area and at his cabin in Island Park. He loved Island Park dearly and spent as much time as possible there. He had the opportunity to serve as board member of Bill's Island and as the President of the Welling Addition.

Byron was loved and respected by so many people and was a staple in the Independence, Burton and farming communities. He said himself his greatest achievement is his family. He always believed in people and saw the best in them and was always so giving and thoughtful. Byron did not have a selfish bone in his body. He was a kind, compassionate, selfless, thoughtful man and husband and he will be sorely missed. He was the rock of his family.

Byron is survived by his wife, Lana Rae (Lauder) Jensen of Rexburg; daughter Melanie Elaine Jensen of Rexburg; sons Jeremy Byron Jensen of Rexburg and Christopher (Lacey) James Jensen of Idaho Falls. He is survived by 5 granddaughters: Samara Cherie, Sidney Noel, Eva Helene, Sienna Rose, and Bella Elaine and 2 grandsons: Devin Jeremy and Truman Christopher. He is also survived by his sister Lynda Holley and his brother Bradley (JoAnn) Jensen, all of Rexburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, sisters Deanna Thorn and Susan Jensen, nephews Jared Jensen and Travis Thorn, brothers in law Bryce Thorn and Gordon Holley, and many aunts and uncles.
