IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Calvin
Murdock
March 6, 1941 – January 4, 2021
Marvis Calvin "Cal" Murdock passed away at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center after being infected with COVID 19. He was the second of eight children born to Marvis and Ellen Murdock of Victor, ID. He was a proud graduate of Teton High School in Driggs where he played football and wrestled. Here he also met the love of his life, Karen Brower Murdock, whom he married after his first semester of Ricks College. They lived in Sugar City for 10 years and then moved to the Rexburg area where they raised 5 children.
Cal had a passion for horses from his earliest memories. He loved trail riding through the mountains of Idaho, and Wyoming. He was part of the Madison County Cutter Racing Association and won several championships. Cal also spent time in Montana training and racing quarter horses with considerable success. His "day job" was in a management position at the Basic American Food plant just outside of Rexburg. He started as an entry level, unskilled employee and quickly worked his way up the ladder during his 35 years of employment.
Cal was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He held many callings but the one he enjoyed the most was working with the youth. He spent most of his summers taking youth groups up into the mountains on trail rides or camping. He had a knack of reaching struggling teenagers and took many into his home as a way of helping them get a fresh start.
Cal was known for helping out those in need. He never believed in giving hand-outs but would find jobs around his property for those who needed to earn some money.
Cal is preceded in death by his sweet wife, Karen, his daughter Krystle Smith (Kevin), son Clay (Dena), his parents Marvis and Ellen Murdock, and sisters Merry Sue Leverton (Gary), and Jacque Sprinkel. He leaves behind three daughters, Kaylene Merrill (Mark), Kimberly Hatch (Craig), and Kallie Neick (Rob), 15 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, brother Guy (Vivian), and sisters Beverly Curtis (William), Janet Walker (Kenneth), Layle Lougy (Scott), and Pamela Murdock.
On behalf of the Murdock family, we would like to thank The Homestead Assisted Living facility whose dedicated employees provided fun and fulfilling experiences for our father. We are also indebted to Madison Memorial and EIRMC Hospitals for the tremendous compassion shown to our family during a very difficult time. Cal will be buried next to his beloved wife at Sutton Cemetery in Archer, ID. His family plans to hold a Celebration of Life when it is safe and COVID restrictions allow group gatherings. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Alzheimer's Foundation. As a fun way to honor his memory, stop by Wendy's on Wednesday and order a 4 for 4 meal (our dad loved his Wendy Wednesday). He was dearly loved and will be missed tremendously.
