Obituary

Carma Joyce Hanseen Ferguson departed this life peacefully on October 5, 2017, after a mighty struggle with Alzheimer's Disease. She was born on December 16, 1931 to J. Golden Hanseen and Myrtle Thompson in Provo, Utah, the fourth of five daughters.

She married Hal George Ferguson in the Salt Lake Temple on March 11, 1953. Together they raised fourteen children: Georgann (Scott) Roberts; Phillip (Carolyn); Scott (Julie); Michael (Renae); Barbara Studebaker; Rebeccajo (Sid) Hill; McKay (Gracie); Mark (Dalene); Robert (Alison); Travis (Kelly); Sandy (Tecia); Melissa (Kevin) Coles; Nichole (Jeff) Aldous; and Richard (KaraLyn). She is survived by 64 grandchildren and 96 great-grandchildren, and by two sisters, Rayola (Dale) Mitchell of Seattle and Sondra (John) Ellis of Pleasant Grove, Utah.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two older sisters, Marjorie (Ab) Swenson and Rosemary (Sterling) Platt, her husband, and two sons, McKay and Travis.

Carma will be remembered for her unsurpassed kindness, generosity and love, her dry wit (which most of her kids have inherited), and her ability to make bread, make do, and make people feel welcome (which all of her kids wish to inherit). Carma loved music. She was an accomplished pianist and had a beautiful singing voice. She loved to sing and even in the later part of her disease would still sing primary hymns with her children who visited. Music was a strong part of her already strong testimony.

She served willingly in many callings in the LDS Church in all auxiliaries and positions. This service was important to her and she didn't let her many family responsibilities serve as an excuse to say no. She and Hal served two LDS Missions to Japan, and though she didn't speak the language, loved the Japanese people.

No one ever left her home hungry. She was generous to a fault. She cooked huge, delicious homemade meals every day. As her children grew she trained them in the ways they should go by her soft manner and Christlike example. Her family, extended family, and so many, many others have been blessed by her and her Christlike life. She leaves a hole in this world, but blesses the next with her presence there.

The family wishes to thank the caring staff at the Homestead in Rexburg, Idaho, Barbara Studebaker for taking care of mother for two years following Dad's passing, Rebecca Hill for her vigilance and being the liaison for the family, and Scott Ferguson for shouldering the heavy responsibilities of guardian and conservator.

A visitation will be held on Friday, October 13th, from 5:30-7:00 pm at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg, Idaho. There will be a viewing on the morning of the funeral beginning at 9:30 a.m. The funeral will be on Saturday, October 14, at 11:00am, in the Rigby 5th Ward, 258 West 1st North, Rigby, Idaho. Burial will be in the Sugar City Cemetery.
