Obituary

Carma Phylin Shepherd Gallup peacefully graduated from this earthly life on September 15, 2022, at Temple View Care Center in Rexburg, Idaho.

She was born in Mount Pleasant, Utah, on July 21, 1946, the sixth of Oscar Shepherd and Phylinda Simmons Shepherd's seven children. Her early childhood was spent in Sanpete County until her family moved to southern Idaho when Carma was about three years old.

She attended elementary and secondary schools in both Shelley and Idaho Falls.

Carma was a talented artist and gifted many family members and friends with her cherished creations.

Carma married Jerry Ray Simpson Sr. in 1966 and they settled down in Idaho Falls. They were blessed with two precious sons from this union. They later divorced.

Carma was a hard worker and spent 27 years working as a nurse's aide at The Good Samaritan care center in Idaho Falls to support her little family. She loved, as well as served, the residents she cared for there. When her youngest son became disabled, she devoted her life to lovingly caring for him at home also, until his condition required more intense medical care.

Carma married Golden Ray Gallup in 2003 and they lived in Idaho Falls until his death in 2007.

Carma was a beloved neighbor and friend to those who also resided in the Elk Creek apartments where she lived for the past fifteen years. She was always offering to help any of them in any way that she was able. They will miss her acts of kindness and her lively, sassy commentary. She will be remembered, by friends and family alike, with smiles and laughter as "Carma Stories" are told for years to come.

Carma was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather John Simpkins, son Duke Simpson, grandson Harley Simpson, great-grandson Ryan Gomont, husband Ray Gallup, brothers Gary (Peggy) Shepherd, McCoy (Pat) Shepherd, and Bud (Kathy) Shepherd, and sisters Bonnie (Gale) Petersen and Moneta Fritz.

She is survived by a son, Jerry Simpson Jr. (Lanette) of St. Anthony, ID; grandchildren Bryce (Crystal) Simpson, Ashley Simpson, Angel Johnson, Duke Simpson Jr., and Hailey Simpson, great-grandchildren Kaden, Karli, Rhyler and Kyson. She is also survived by a brother, Steven Simpkins of Idaho Falls and sisters, Karen Shepherd Baccus of Homosassa, FL; Sondra (Leo) Gaitan of Independence, OR; and Terri (Jeff) Wright of West Valley City, UT. Carma is also survived by a special friend, Tony Rios of Idaho Falls.

A Celebration of Life in Carma's honor will be conducted at a future date.
