Obituary

Charlene Bates Davenport, 52, of Rexburg, passed away Saturday, July 1, 2023, at her home after a long battle with cancer.

Charlene was born November 24, 1970, in Driggs, Idaho, to Cloyd Vernon and Eleanor Rea McIntosh Bates. She spent her early years growing up and attending school in Utah. In the 1980's her family moved back to Driggs and she graduated from Teton High School in 1989.

An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served a mission in the Massachusetts Boston Mission from 1992 to 1994. After returning from her mission she attended Ricks College in Rexburg, graduating in 1996 with an Associate Degree.

While living and attending school in Rexburg she met Eric Davenport. They were married on August 21, 1998, in the Idaho Falls Temple. They lived in Meridian, Idaho for a few years and then moved back to Rexburg where they have raised their five children.

In 1998, Charlene joined the US Marine Corps. She served for six years and was a Sergeant at the time she was honorably discharged. She was very patriotic and loved serving her country.

Charlene loved her fellow sisters in the Relief Society and was grateful for the opportunities to serve and minister to them.

Charlene always wanted to become a lawyer and travel the world. She enjoyed riding horses, working in their garden, and anything that let her be outdoors.

She loved her family and her children were always her priority!

She is survived by her husband, Eric Lynn Davenport; her children, Hailey Marie, Emily Elizabeth, Austin James, Vanessa Rea, and Eli Christopher; her siblings, Lynette (Wes) Barrus, Michelle Bates, Michael (Eloisa) Bates, and Donald (Amber) Bates.

She is preceded in death by her parents, and infant sister, Adella Maria Bates; and her grandparents.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 8, at the Archer LDS Chapel.  The family will receive friends Saturday morning from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services.  Interment will be in the Bates Cemetery in Driggs, Idaho, with Military Honors by the American Legion and US Marines.
