Obituary

Charles was born on July 26, 1950 to Aaron Orson and Miriam Scholes Ricks, the youngest of eight siblings; Sharon, Nelda, David, Amy, Max, Steven and Rex. Charles has lived and farmed in the Moody area his whole life.

With eight siblings Charles had plenty of action going on at home. He was either overly mothered or considered a partner in crime. He and his brothers would shoot marbles at each other and even today we will find old marbles in the garden or fields. The family milked cows and grew grain and potatoes so he learned to work at an early age.

Charles attended Sugar-Salem Highschool, Ricks College, and graduated with bachelor's degrees in Animal Science and Accounting from BYU. He served a mission in England from 1969-1971 and had a lifelong love of England and MG Sportscars. (He has two).

When Charles' father passed away, he was at BYU. His mother needed help so he would go to school and come home every weekend to run the farm. Later he bought the 200-acre farm from his mother. He re-met KaraLee Burton after she returned home from her mission in England. They married in 1978, in the Idaho Falls Temple, on November 11th. Since November 11th was Veterans Day and all the banks were closed getting money for a honeymoon was a problem. He ended up getting money from a friend in Utah who had an auction.

Charles and KaraLee began their life together living in Rexburg. Then in Sugar City they lived and were able to build a house next door. They lived in Sugar 37 years.

Charles worked at PCA, a farm lending institution, and then the Bank of Commerce in Rexburg for 28 years as a vice president. He loved working with his customers, and many became life-long friends, and he sincerely valued the people he worked with. When he retired, they built a new home on the farm in Moody.

KaraLee always said, "Charles had two jobs, the bank and the farm. He worked hard at both."

Charles loved hiking, biking, and gardening. He loved living on the farm, he loved the new house, fishing, the sunsets, and sunrises. He and Maren planted huge gardens. He found great joy in cultivating many rows of corn and watermelon. Most of all he enjoyed sharing the fruits of his labors with others. Every year the garden seems to get bigger.

Charles and KaraLee are the proud parents of four children, Maren (Roger) Nichols, Aaron Charles (Amy), Jason Paul, and Rachel Arla (Tony) White. They have eight grandchildren.

Charles passed away suddenly June 6th, 2021. The family is heartbroken. He was the quiet strength in the family. Please join them in honoring and celebrating his memory Friday June 11th at 5:30 for a viewing at the Flamm Funeral home in Rexburg, Idaho. Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 12th at the Sugar City Stake Center. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services at the church.
