Clair Boyle

September 18, 1932 — March 3, 2026

Rexburg

Clair D. Boyle passed away March 3, 2026, in Idaho Falls, Idaho.

Clair was born September 18, 1932, in Lynndyl, Utah, to James Sterling Boyle and Ethel Shields Boyle.

He spent his childhood years growing up in Lynndyl, Park City, Salt Lake City, Utah, and Bakersfield, CA. After graduating from high school, he joined the Utah National Guard and served faithfully for 16 years.

Clair married Elva Bartlett, and together they had four boys: Bruce, Cary, Scott, and Mike.

They later divorced, and he married Judy Gay Gardner. Clair and Judy met while working at Utah Power and Light. Together they had eight children: Gary, Judy, Shane, Jason, Jennifer, Tara, Brandon, and Dana.

As a youth, young man, and adult, Clair found great satisfaction and happiness in work, family, sports and many outdoor activities.

To say he had a passion for baseball, working hard, family, and the Savior would be an understatement.

His professional career began at Utah Power and Light as a Customer Service Representative. He spent the majority of his career working at the power company and loved his job and being in the community. It wasn't uncommon for Clair to have more than one job at a time, yet he always found time to serve in the community.

Throughout the years he served on the city council for Park City, Salt Lake City, Rigby and Rexburg, Idaho. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce and announced horse shows, cutter races, and rodeos. He had a great love for his horses.

He retired in 1988 after 37 years of working for the company he loved so much. Retirement wasn't in his DNA, so Clair went on to work for the City of Rexburg as the Parks and Recreation Director, later as a high school baseball coach, and director of the Madison Economic Development.

His life was full of service to his community, love for the outdoors, his horses, hunting, fishing, and chasing ball games from one end of the state to the next. It didn't matter if it was his son, daughter, or grandchildren playing ball—he would find a way to get there.

One of his grandchildren said upon his passing, "If you knew him, you were better for it."

Clair was a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved going to the temple with his sweetheart, Judy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, his son Gary Lynn, son Cary Dee and grandson Brandon Albert.

He has left a legacy in his posterity that will miss him dearly.

We love you, Dad, Grandpa, Great Grandpa, and Sweetheart.

Clair is survived by his wife of 60 years, Judy Gay Boyle. His children, Bruce (Margie), Scott (Jeri), Mike, Judy (Silas) Gilliam, Shane (Cari), Jason (Jennie), Jennifer (Sam), Tara Abbott, Brandon (Tammy), Dana (Brian) Barclay. Including 36 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 11th at Cresthaven LDS Chapel, located at 1070 South 2nd East, Rexburg, Idaho 83440.  The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. and again Wednesday, prior to services, from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. both times at the church.  Interment will follow in the Sugar City Cemetery.
