Obituary

Our loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend Edith Clarine (Lank) Penrose passed away December 10, 2024, in Rexburg, Idaho. She was born August 23, 1934, to Clarence Earl Lank and Enid Alice Hohn in Vegreville, Alberta, Canada.

Clarine grew up on the plains of Alberta with two brothers and two sisters: Clifford, Clayton, Isabel, and Betty. They learned to work, play and enjoy life under meager circumstances.

When Clarine was eight years old, missionaries from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints visited the family home. Clarine joined the Church with part of her family in the spring of 1944. Later in the year, the rest of her family, including her paternal grandfather were baptized.

After completing high school, Clarine emigrated to the United States to be with her sisters and find work. She spent time in Utah and California and made many lifelong friends. One friend introduced Clarine to Wallace Kay Penrose at the Hygeia Ice Rink in Salt Lake City.

She married Wallace Kay Penrose June 3, 1960, in the Salt Lake Temple. Wally and Clarine welcomed four children into their lives: Roger, Robert, Keith, and Laura. They built a home in Taylorsville, Utah and became fast friends with others in the area.

After raising children, Clarine returned to office administrative work at Westlake Junior High School and Valley Mental Health. She had a gift for organizing and efficiency.

Clarine had a special ability to love and encourage her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and to build loving relationships with them.

Clarine embraced the Savior's admonition to love God and to love your neighbor as yourself. She provided a personal example of her convictions in her deeds. Her children were blessed to be involved in many acts of service as they accompanied her to visit those in need. She had the gift to become instantaneous friends with the people around her.

She is survived by her sister Isabel Nielsen, children Roger (Bonnie), Keith, and Laura Johnson (Craig); daughter-in-law Laural Penrose Rigby (Jamie); ten grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. Clarine is preceded in death by her parents Clarence Lank and Enid Hohn, husband Wallace, brothers Clifford and Clayton Lank, sister Betty Knudsen, and son Robert.

A memorial service will be held Friday, January 3, 2024, at 12:00 PM MST, at the Westbrook 7th Ward building (6364 South 3200 West, Taylorsville, Utah) with Zoom link https://zoom.us/j/9623130327 (passcode 189195). The interment will precede the memorial service at the Utah Veterans Cemetery and Memorial Park at 9:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, please do an act of kindness for someone.
