Obituary

Coleen Brock Grigg (81) passed away peacefully after a prolonged affliction with dementia on Friday September 15th, 2023. Coleen had been a long-time memory-care resident in Ashton, ID. Coleen is survived by her loyal and loving Husband of 59 and a half years, Gary Thomas Grigg (82) who has been by her side dedicated to an enduring love in spite of the tangled condition that befell her.

Coleen is also survived by her children Jill Grigg Silvester of Fort Myers, FL;Jared Thomas Grigg (Angelina) of Springfield, IL; Aaron James "AJ" Grigg (Charline) of North Ogden, UT; Ryan Brock Grigg (Christina) of Ennis,MT. Coleen has 20 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

Coleen was a true native of Rexburg, born on Nov 4th 1941 to adoring parents Alois Henry "Whitey" Brock and Zelda Silvester Brock (who have preceded her in death). She was the oldest of 4 children, and is survived by her siblings Nadene Hirschi (Glead) of Boise, ID; Barbara Larsen (Greg) of Spokane, WA; and James "Jim" Brock (Shirley) of West Valley, UT. After graduating from Madison High School, she obtained her Beautician license, and then attended school at Utah State University to continue her education. It is there that she met her husband, Gary. They were subsequently married on April 24, 1964, in the Idaho Falls LDS temple.

Coleen was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, and homemaker. She had the opportunity to travel extensively with her husband and family. She loved traveling, especially to warm tropical beach paradises and enjoyed meeting people and making friends everywhere she went. She is known for her exceptional cooking and baking skills and operated her own catering business for several years. People who knew her during her catering days still discuss many of her events and specialty dishes. Besides food and travel, Coleen was devoted to her family. She was a loving sister and an amazing aunt to all her nieces and nephews. She was a helpful mainstay at the births of most all her grandchildren as well as her great-nieces and great-nephews. Her love of the babies growing the family was influential. One of Coleen's greatest passions otherwise was reading. She never went anywhere without a book. She believed reading was the best way to learn about other times and places, and she loved curling up in a quiet corner at every opportunity with her books.

Known simply as "Mama Coleen" to all, she will be dearly missed until we meet again. May the healing power of our Savior now embrace you.
