Coleman M. Steel, 72, of Burton passed away October 17, 2011, in Ashton surrounded by family. He was born July 13, 1939, in Plano, Idaho, to Moroni Job Steel and Beulah Ursula Coleman. He was third of five children. He attended school in the Sugar-Salem School District and Ricks College.
He married Laretta Hansen in the Idaho Falls LDS temple on April 25, 1958. They lived in Plano and Malta, Idaho; Warden, Washington; and Burton. Coleman and Laretta had 11 children. He retired from BYU-Idaho as supervisor of the Heating Plant and Mechanical Shop. He enjoyed woodworking, extensive coin collecting since he was a young boy, farming, gardening, and traveling to see his children and grandchildren.
He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints holding many callings. He was most recently an Executive Secretary for the Burton 3rd Ward.
Coleman is survived by his children Todd Steel of Georgia, Waynette Steel (Jim Brown) of Utah, Randall Steel (Noelle) of Oregon, Terri Weaver (Randy) of Sugar City, Blake Steel (Beth) of Washington, Brenda Reeser (David) of Rexburg, Alison Shuldberg (Brian) of Texas, Richard Steel (Tanya) of Boise, Jeannette Cooley (Trevor) of Idaho Falls, Aarin Smith (Wes) of Rigby, 40 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Also surviving are his siblings LaThel Wurst, J.C. Steel, Paul Steel, and Sana Rae Davenport.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Laretta his wife of 51 years, Krystal a daughter, and Audrey Brown a granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, October 22, 2011, in the Burton LDS Church with Bishop Kenneth McCluskey officiating. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.at the church prior to services.
