IN LOVING MEMORY OF

Steel
July 29, 1950 – December 23, 2025
Louis "Dal" Dalley Steel
Louis Dalley Steel, affectionately known to friends and family as Dal, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2025. He was born on July 29, 1950, in Rexburg, Idaho, to Edna Dalley and Louis O. Steel.
Dal grew up in the community of Plano, Idaho, where he was the oldest son of eight children. It was here that he developed the character and work ethic that defined his path. He attended local schools and graduated from Sugar Salem High School in 1968.
Shortly after graduation, Dal answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Navy. His time in the service was a defining chapter in his young life. Upon returning home, he settled back in the Rexburg area, where he remained a resident for the better part of seven decades.
Dal went to school to become a mechanic and dedicated much of his career to that trade. His talent with tools and machinery extended far beyond his professional career; he loved to tinker and was always being called upon to fix things for family and friends.
When he wasn't in the shop, Dal found great joy in the outdoors, especially when he was fishing or hunting. He was also a racing fan and cherished the trips he took to attend the races at Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee. Dal had a deep love for animals and was rarely without a tank full of fish or a dog by his side.
In July 1993, Dal married Margaret Ottesen, and they shared their lives together in Plano until her passing in 2021. Dal was a man of steady presence and a long-time member of his community. He leaves behind a large extended family and many who will remember him for his skills and his willingness to lend a hand with any project.
Dal was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his stepson, Stacy Hansen, and a grandson, Cody Hansen.
He is survived by his children:
· Shawn (Tamra) Steel
· Wendi (Dustin) Birch
· James Steel (Elissa Van Marter)
· Darren Steel
· Sarah (Tony) Austin
He is also survived by his step-children:
· Nancy (Steven) Brown
· John (Christy) Hansen
· Joel (Misty) Hansen

His legacy continues through his 40 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
