Obituary
Dale "Jack" Chambers passed away in his sleep on February 1, 2010 at the age of 85 years in Rexburg, Idaho. Jack was born to Evert and Lillie (Skelton) Chambers on February 16, 1924 in Bradley, Oklahoma where he attended Sandy Grove School. During World War II, Jack joined the United States Army and achieved the rank of Technician 5th grade. While serving in Europe, a mortar hit a fox hole in which Jack and another soldier who had become Jack's best friend had taken cover. Jack's friend was killed and Jack was seriously wounded but survived. Jack was awarded a Purple Heart for being wounded in combat. Jack was honorably discharged from the Army.
Jack married Mary Lou Bentley on September 13, 1946, in Rush Springs, Oklahoma. She predeceased Jack and is buried at the Dubois, Idaho cemetery. While living in Dubois, they attended the Baptist Church. Jack's wishes were that his remains be cremated and buried next to his wife. A graveside service will be held for Jack later this Spring at which Jack's desire that he be laid to rest next to Mary Lou will be fulfilled.
Jack was a rancher by trade who loved horses. He was skilled at making things by hand. He enjoyed in particular leather tooling and wood carving. A generous man, Jack often shared his handiworks through gifts to others.
Jack married Margaret Zundel Davidson in Idaho Falls, Idaho in 1998. They had twelve happy years together. He was a kind and loving husband throughout their marriage. He became a grandfather to, and was loved by, her grandchildren.
Jack was predeceased by his brother, Carrell Chambers of Hawkins, Texas. He is survived by a daughter, Linda Sue Dallas (Chris) of Miles City, Montana; five siblings, Albert Chambers of Blanchard, Oklahoma; Beatrice Hill of Lindsay, Oklahoma; Gerald Chambers of Plainview, Texas; Virginia Jones of Lindsay, Oklahoma and Ronnie Chambers of Fritch Texas, and a grandson, Corey Chambers, of Sigurd, Utah.
There will be a memorial service for Jack at 11:00 a.m. on February 13, 2010, in the Community Room at the Community Gardens Apartments at 121 North Center Street, Rexburg, Idaho. His friends and neighbors from Rexburg, Dubois, Idaho Falls and around the area are invited to attend. If there are any who wish to remember Jack, they may do so by making a contribution on his behalf to a charity that will benefit Veterans.
