Obituary

Dallas Jay Myers, 74, of Rexburg passed away Thursday, June 5, 2013 at his home after a lingering illness. He was born in Pocatello, Idaho on June 6, 1938 to James Charles and Thelma May Hawkins Myers. The family was living in Arimo and moved to Pocatello when he was 14 years old. He attended schools in Marsh Valley and Pocatello, graduating from Pocatello High School. He served in the National Guard, Army Reserve, and the United States Air Force. On June 25, 1958 he married Deanna Mae Draper in Pocatello. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple on June 25, 1963. They resided in Pocatello and Arco, before making their home in Rexburg. He worked in construction, owned and operated a long haul truck (professionally logging in over two million miles), and worked driving bus for the INL site until retirement. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Most of all he loved his family and close friends. Survivors are his wife of 55 years, and sons Brian J. (Lorie) Myers of Ammon, Brett Dean (Diane) Myers of Hailey, Barry Scott Myers of Layton, Utah; two sisters Viola May (Gary) Harris of Idaho Falls, Karen Lee (Lou) Lewis of Boise and a brother Alan Jerry (Mary Ellen) Myers of Meridian. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Phyllis Myers, Loyce Crane, Lavonia Leavitt, Sandra Kay Myers, a brother James Charles, and grandson Joshua Michael Myers. The family is so grateful for all of the service and care given by Hibbard 1st Ward members, friends and neighbors. It has been a great outpouring of love and compassion. We also offer a special thank you to the Encompass Home Health and Hospice staff for their excellent service to Dallas and family. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 14 at the Hibbard LDS Chapel with Bishop Kyle Kinghorn officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday evening at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg and from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. Friday at the church prior to services. Interment will be in the Rexburg Cemetery.
