Dan Arden Davenport of Rexburg Idaho passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Thursday, January 19, 2017. Dan was born in Caldwell Idaho in March of 1958 and grew up in Sugar City Idaho. He was the son of Calvin Joseph and Effie Stoddard Davenport, and had one brother, David Joseph Davenport of Meridian, Idaho.
Dan married his sweetheart, Leni Thompson of Rexburg, Idaho, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple in April of 1980 and they raised a family of sons: Jeremy Glenn (Kimi Nielsen) of Woodbridge, Virginia; Andrew Arden (Amelia Rios) of Basalt, Idaho; Stoddard Gage (Ellen Tew) of Boise, Idaho, and Nicholas Wayne (Hannah Whiting) of Jackson, Wyoming. He had five grandchildren whom he adored: Brinkley, Caelen and Noelle, Nora and Miles. Dan loved his family dearly and his greatest joy was to have them together and happy.
Dan worked as a Purchasing Manager for several different companies in Rexburg, Idaho Falls and Soda Springs for most of his career. He also drove for Salt Lake Express for 10 years and was their first driver to log a million miles before he was forced to retire by failing health. He had a strong work ethic and it was a priority to make sure his family was taken care of.
Dan served as a teacher, scout leader, home teacher, bishopric member and many church callings throughout the years. His faith was an important part of his finding peace through the hard times in his life.
Dan began a struggle with type 2 diabetes in 1996. The disease progressed and in 2010 he was diagnosed with kidney failure. He began a long and difficult battle and encountered many serious complications including blindness, heart problems and severe anemia. The love he had for his wife and family drove his will to keep fighting.
A sharp sense of humor and a punch line were something Dan always kept handy. He loved a good laugh, and even in his sickest moments, he managed a wise crack or two with medical staff.
Dan is survived by his wife and sons. He was a powerful example of sheer will power and fortitude, and always expressed gratitude to those who helped care for him. He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Dan requested no viewing, but friends may greet the family in the Relief Society room at the Harvest Hills LDS church on Sunday, January 22, from 6:30 until 7:30pm and on Monday, January 23, from 10:00 until 10:30am.
