Danial Micheal Howard passed away unexpectedly December 5th 2016 in his home in Idaho Falls, Idaho at the age of 43.
Danial was born August 10th 1973, in Rexburg Idaho, to Micheal and Kathy Howard. He grew up farming with his father in Newdale. He attended and graduated from Sugar Salem High School in 1991 and served an LDS mission in Tucson Arizona where he learned to love the Lord through service to others. After returning from his mission he married Holly Christensen, in the Idaho Falls Temple in 1995 and they were married for 13 years. Together they had two wonderful daughters, Hannah (19) and Lily (12) . Danial obtained a Master degree in Mathematics with an emphasis in numerical analysis from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.
Danial started his career with Idaho State University providing Linux System Administration duties. He later accepted the position as a math professor at Brigham Young University Idaho where he taught for 5 years. He then applied for the job of his dreams at the Idaho National Lab as a supercomputer administrator. He excelled in every level at the INL winning several awards and recognition for solving the unsolvable. Danial was truly brilliant in understanding the complexity and requirements of the building, distributing and maintaining one of the fastest super computers in the world.
Danial was passionate about the outdoors and spent all of the time he could hiking and exploring Idaho, Wyoming and Montana often with his daughters keeping him company. He loved to ski, growing up skiing Grand Targhee. Winters spent on the ski hill were some of his fondest memories and a love of skiing and the outdoors is something he's passed on to his daughters.
Some of his proudest accomplishments, aside from Hannah and Lily, would be a 50 mile summit of Fremont Peak in 24 hours, a hike he later did with his brother on his 39th birthday. He loved hiking the Wind River range and Teton National Forest. He accomplished his masters thesis on "A study of the method of incremental unknowns on the nonlinear Burgers' equation in two dimensions."
Danial was a talented musician who spent countless hours entertaining and blessing the lives of others with his guitar and his love for singing. This started at an early age playing in the 3rd Generation band with his Grandma and Grandpa Chris (Christensen), mother and siblings. His music was something he enjoyed and cultivated in his live passing this on to his two daughters.
Danial will be remembered singing James Taylor, Grandma's Feather Bed around the camp fire and Christmas Carols during the holidays.
He was survived by his two daughters, Hannah and Lily, sister Kimberly Hill (Jared Hill) of Boise, ID, brother Derek Howard (Tracie Howard) of Hayden, ID, sister Courtney Herd (Tyler Herd) of Bowie, MD, brother Daris Howard (Sara Howard) of Rigby, ID. His parents Micheal and Kathy Howard of Newdale ID. His grandmother Ruth Edstrom (Christensen) of Burton, ID. He is proceeded in death by his grandparents Pete and Wanda Howard of Newdale, ID and grandfather Nolan Christensen of Rexburg, ID.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. (corrected time) on Monday, December 12, at the Newdale LDS Chapel. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. and Monday from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m., both times at the church. Interment will be in the Teton-Newdale Cemetery under the direction of Flamm Funeral Home.
