Obituary

Daniel L Black, 76, of Sugar City, passed away Sunday, December 8, 2019 in the ICU Burn Unit at the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls following an electrical accident.

Born February 2, 1943 in Burley, Idaho, he was the son of Lane Paskett and Melba Lyons Black.  Dan and Kay were long-time residents of Sugar City, Idaho.

Dan graduated from Minico High School and served the first of four missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Texas Mission. On December 3, 1964, Dan married his high school sweetheart, Kay Price, in the Idaho Falls temple. After moving to Rexburg, he worked for Ricks College Food Services. In his more than 40 years with Ricks College, he served as bakery manager, assistant director of food services, and finally director of food services, retiring in 2006. He had such a positive influence on the thousands of students he employed over the years.

Dan was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ serving faithfully in many capacities. He was a scout master, Sunday school president, member of the Young Men's presidency, high counselor, Elder's Quorum president, Sunday school teacher, bishoprics and bishop. After retirement, Dan and Kay served three temple missions in Kona, Hawaii; Kiev, Ukraine; and Johannesburg, South Africa.

An avid outdoorsman, Dan enjoyed hunting, fishing, motorcycling, trains, boating, and long Sunday drives.

Of all of his many accomplishments, he considered his family his greatest. All who knew him regarded him as a kind, generous, Christ-like, gentle giant.

He leaves his wife of 55 years, Kay Price Black; daughters, Alane McLing (Travis), DeAnna Stallings (Rik), Wendy Rasmussen (Heath); sons, Kent Black (Mariam), Kyle Black (Mignon), and Mark Black (Cassie). He is also survived by 28 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and four grandbabies.
