Daniel was born on Sept. 12, 1943 in Woodside, Queens, New York. As a young child, after his parents divorced, his family moved to Hialeah, Florida. Dan attended Hialeah Elementary, Miami Springs Junior High, and graduated from Hialeah High School. He attended Miami Dade Jr College. Later in life he graduated from the Salt Lake City Barber School.

As a boy Dan would go fishing with his friends off the Miami shore line. They had many adventures. He loved the ocean. Dan spent some time when he was a teenager as a shipmate on a sailed ship that went to the Bahamas.

Dan was a VFW, serving in the Army from 1962 to 1968. Part of that time he was stationed in Viet Nam and was a receiver and decoder of enemy transmissions. Thousands of hours listening to the enemy with earphones left him partially deaf, which he suffered with through his life. He received commendations in Sharpshooting, rifle M-1 and carbine. Dan was proud of his service to his country and felt a special bond with other Vets.

On his birthday in 1966 he married Susan Elaine Finch in Las Vegas, Nevada. They resided during this time in Southern Florida, California, Salt Lake City and Mesa. Their marriage was later solemnized in the LDS Salt Lake City Temple. They had two boys, Kolby and Kimball Kolibas. They were later divorced.

Dan married Launa Pritchett Lewis on August 17, 1991. They resided in Chandler and Page Arizona . Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. Together they raised 4 children: Justin Lee Lewis, Bonnie Kathleen Kolibas, Amanda Faye Kolibas, and Dakota Cole Kolibas all of Mesa Arizonia. During this time Dan and Launa were foster parents to many children. They were later divorced. Dan relocated to Rexburg, Idaho and resided in Independence until his death.

After Dan returned from the Army he worked in the family Pet Shop Business. He groomed dogs, and retailed tropical fish as well as other tropical animals. Later he became a lineman for the Miami Dade County Power Company. He changed careers again when he went into the Barbering profession. Dan owned and operated the Klip Joint in Salt Lake City for years. When he relocated to Arizona he worked for the Water Company in Phoenix and Paradise Valley. Dan worked for a few years in Page, Arizona as a Park Ranger for the Lake Powell Marina, then completed his working career in the Water Utilities in Phoenix.

Dan was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He enjoyed the camaraderie of his friends in the ward he lived in. On Thanksgiving Day he went to play football with some of the guys who happened to be retired football players from BYU. He got tackled from both sides at once and ended up with 4 broken ribs and 2 cracked ones. It turned into a ward classic tale about how cool he was about it, but through the pain he was happy that he got hurt playing with the guys.

He loved missionary work and served in that capacity on the Indian Reservation in Page, Arizona. He was one of the few men allowed by the Navaho Indians as he was so well liked by the tribe. He also served as a Stake missionary, Elders Quorum President , High Priest Group Leader, Boy Scout Leader, 17 year old Sunday School teacher, and Gospel Essential teacher, along with other callings.

Procuring ancient antiquities whenever possible was a particular joy of his. Dan had a keen interest in all things interesting. He loved archeology, ancient studies, as well as how things worked. He was a student till the end. His family and children were the love of his life.
