Obituary

Danny Oliver Daniel, 71, of Rexburg, passed away on January 29, 2023 in Rexburg, Idaho.
Danny was born in Fort Worth, Texas to James Curtis Daniel and Ida Mae Woods on July 15, 1951. Danny was the oldest brother to four younger siblings: Libby, Jimmy, Joe, and Rea.

Raised in the Deep South, Danny learned how to work hard and had an appreciation for the simple things in life-traits he kept with him all his life and passed on to his children and grandchildren in many different ways.

Danny met the love of his life, Ethelynn Clarice Cooley, when she was 9 and he was 15. They have been inseparable ever since. They were young hippies who enjoyed going to concerts and dancing. They always made the most of any situation and never let life get in the way. They had four children: Lonnie, Aric, Shela, and Daniel.

Always the adventurer, Danny lived and worked all across the US. He painted TV towers and water tanks in Pittsburg, worked off shore painting oil rigs in the Gulf, and later worked in California and Oregon as an industrial roofer.

His grandkids loved when he came home from California because he usually brought candy lipstick and candy cigarettes home with him. After moving to Idaho in 2004, he drove semi-truck for the Nulph's, whom he loved dearly, until his health forced him to retirement. That didn't slow Danny down through. You could find him in the forest getting firewood, back home chopping said firewood into perfect 15 inch pieces, going for "big walks", and meticulously caring for his lawn.

One of Danny's favorite hobbies was sturgeon and salmon fishing while he lived in Washington. He took every opportunity to take friends and family out on his boat. He loved his smokehouse and told anyone who would listen about every step he took to accomplish the best smoked salmon EVER. He had a green thumb and grew the best tomatoes. He loved his Catahoula dogs: Evangeline, Huey P. Long and Blackie more than anything.

Danny always had a book he wanted you to read, a song he wanted you to listen to, or a C-SPAN program he had recorded for you to watch. He never stopped learning and never stopped sharing that knowledge, whether you agreed with him or not. We will all remember his catch phrase, "Can I get a word in edgewise?"

Danny was preceded in death by his son, Lonnie Gerald Daniel; grandson, Richard Farris; and younger brothers, Jimmy and Joe Daniel.

He is survived by his wife, Clarice; children, Aric (Angela) Daniel, Shela (Wallace) Patriquin and Daniel (Raelene) Daniel; sisters, Libby Johnson and Rose Marie Daniel; mother, Ida McGirr; grandchildren, Breanna Daniel, Eva Moultrie, Ivy (Derek) Weathermon, Wayne (Sarah) Patriquin, Daniel, Grace, Sam, Joe, and Eli Patriquin, Robert Farris and Ryan (Cori) O'Neill; and 2 Great- Grandchildren being born this year.

The family would like to thank Rexburg Home and Health and Hospice for the excellent care and treatment Danny received the last week of his life. We will be forever grateful for them.

No Services will be held.
